We've all done it. In an idle moment, scribbled on the back of an envelope our design of a supercar. So what would yours be like? And why? What's wrong with the present offerings? What aspects of existing cars would you steal and incorporate? In reality, designing and making your own supercar is a practical proposition. We've a tremendous depth of engineering resources, talent and ability in this country. So how much would it cost? How long is a piece of string I suppose. Depends greatly on the complexity of you design. In practical terms, it's only the body/chassis and suspension that would need to be original, all the rest is readily available on the market, from proprietary items such as engines, gearboxes, brakes, dampers, steering, electronics, glass. Nothing wrong with stealing bits from present production cars. So come on guys, let's have your ideas for the PH super GT !!

I thought there was a fair amount of carbon in it already?

Yep, though frankly you could make it out of cow st and it would still look amazing. smile

Kevlar I think though I'm not sure what the difference is.

Doesn't it have both Kevlar and CF?

Yeah, parts of it are already carbon fiber but it wouldn't be a stretch to make more out of it. And make sure it all fits together a bit better. It's basically my favourite supercar ever, but up close some details are pretty shocking.

And while we're at it, might as well uprate the turbos to something newer, give it an extra gear and make absolutely sure it doesn't get a flappy paddle box and a bunch of batteries.

In which case I wish you the very best for your endeavours, and I look forward to test-driving the prototype wink

Sounds like a Pagani F40

What I'm basically trying to say is, I feel they got the concept of a supercar pretty much dead-on with the F40 back in the eighties. You could upgrade parts of it with some newer technology, but in essence it's pretty much perfect without all the electronics, automated everything, hybrid drivetrain, ...

Kevlar's tougher i.e. a carbon-kevlar composite is less prone to shattering into bits than carbon alone.

While some kind of super lightweight drivers supercar would be fun, there's quite a lot out there already which would fit the bill. This is somewhat achievable though. My own Lexus V8 / MR2 turbo space framed project is on hold until I have some funds. I will build it one day.

Given an unlimited budget fantasy I'd love to take a crack at some kind of Veyron beating super GT. Veyron gearbox/drive train. Mid mounted Rolls Royce Meteor engine with modern fuel injection and various tweaks.

That looks like an Nissan R390 and a Koenigsegg CC8 had a bit much to drink and made sweet music all night long.

I didn't know that.
And yes, a Noble M600 would for example be pretty close to what I'm describing.

Wouldn't that be even bigger and heavier than a Veyron? Or am I vastly underestimating the weight of the W16 engine and overestimating the weight of a Meteor engine?

Here's mine.

Note the all important machine guns mounted up front.

Production starts next year with a capacity of 5-6 per annum.

I'm taking deposits now if you're interested (non-refundable)

I'm interested.

What's the boot space like?

No boot as such as the vehicle is rear engined (none of this mid-engine malarky) if you note, behind the driver is an area I call
"Luggage Optimising Space Efficient Room" I think it needs some sort of acronym though.

This has plenty of room for a number of cases of redbull.

Well I'd cheat and keep the lighter alloy bits of the Merlin but just not boost it. Apparently a Merlin, without ancillaries, weighs in at ~600kg. The W16 is 430kg. So a bit heavier but not much in the context of a >2.5 ton GT car.

Packaging it in some kind of sensibly sized chassis would, I suspect, be the tricky bit.
