I couldn't care less until I was in a crash that involved a couple of rolls.
Now I want a roll cage in my next car, so I care a bit more.
Don't forget putting large metal bars near where you head will be flopping about next time you roll the car isn't necessarily a safer option. Now I want a roll cage in my next car, so I care a bit more.
To be honest it didn't bother me that much, but now, driving out there in a car made of the thinnest material possible it does worry me.
If I had kids I'd want to put them in something pretty safe too, unless it was caged I really wouldn't want to see the results of crashing a 106 with a kid in it!

This is why you need deep buckets with proper harnesses. HANS might be a bit OTT for road use. I reckon cage+buckets+properly adjusted harness is safer than any amount of airbags. To answer the question safety does influence me, not for my own sake and not because I plan on crashing any time soon but you never know when a numpty is going to plough into you when you're carrying passengers.
I choose to play in a Caterham... so no, safety features are not part of my considersations.
I do a lot of miles in the the Jag. The fact that it's big makes motorway work more relaxing, and I guess a side benefit is that there is plenty of metal to crumple around me before I get squished.
The wife drives a VW Sharan people carrier. Primarily it a vehicle fit for the purpose she uses it for. I have to trust that VW R&D knew what they were doing when designing it to be safe in a crash.
Finally, I simply don't trust the rating system 100%. My simplistic grasp of physics tells me that a small car with a good NCAP is never coming off better than a big car with a poor rating of equal era.
