Under a grand, near London (say, within 70 miles). What's the best one?
Winner gets a reeses peanut butter thing.

(And yes, this is the most thinly veiled attempt ever at getting other people to do the leg work)

Possibly Tom, will have a think this eve (as in, I can it's just whether I want to)

Cheers Fox, I had a look earlier but couldn't be arsed to weigh them up individually (decisions are not my forte)

Scarble...I'd expedite it by recorded delivery

Well I'm within 50 or so miles of London and there is a decent looking 1997 1.6 mk1 (possibly the ultra homo 90 brake one) on AT, private sale with 6 mths MOT for a monkey, not too far from me. I'm tempted myself but then I'd definitely need to admit to mysel that I've got a problem.

Tch tight and lazy - does not sound like a good combo!

wink

I am being silly - please don't be offended.

Personally if I had the money I would not try and restrict 'sub 1k'.

If you can afford a bit more than why the artificial budget... I think you're asking the wrong question really?

Ask not what the car will cost to buy but what the car will cost you. If your plan is to keep it for a couple of years or so and sell it on then will you lose that much more on a car that cost 1400 vs one that scraped in at 1k? Chances are both cars will be worth more or less the same?

Conversely - if this is a keeper then does £400 matter to you (I know it matters to some people but doesn't sound like it does to you).

I know 1k is a nice round figure but it sounds a bit artificial to me... you can get good mx5's from anywhere from 1k to 2k ... the question really is in that spectrum of such good value for money are you really going to begrudge a couple of hundred quid.

Buy the car off someone on this forum and spend more time enjoying it than searching for one!

Incidentally in teh sub 1k you have competition:

Totally take your point rakoosh, and am not remotely offended.

Putting it simply, it's something to treat like crap and have it just keep going til it dies...

It's an artificial ceiling of money, but when making decisions I (I mentioned my inability to make decisions so I have coping strategies) find it easier to fix one known quantity else 'project creep' kicks in and before I know it I'm back at the ghibli/integrale that I would feel guilty at abusing (no room for two cars at the moment).

I'll have a ponder though, you're right.

PnM...basta..
wink

Oh and someone's going to say if I can afford those, I can afford more on an alternative than a grand...which is true...but I AM a tightwad if it's not something I really, really want. If it gets me about, gives me some fun, vaguely reliably for a few months then I'm not fussed about the looks.

Basically, rakoosh, your first line was bang on correct wink
