Another what car - upto £8k

Morning all 
Looking for a new car to replace my trusty Mondeo. I was looking at stuff like MK4 Mondeo, V50's and other run of the mill stuff and then saw an Alfa Brera, what a nice looking car. I don't need a big car as I travel alone, but do need a reasonable size boot to carry all my gear. I do about 1000 miles a week on average so need something comfy, must be diesel as well. Anyone have any experience of these, reliabilty etc?
Any other leftfield suggestions welcome, must be diesel and have a reasonable boot, not too fussed about age.
