A mate of mine has a rather tidy 300 ZX Twin Turbo in black that has escaped the usual Veilside Kit/Flip Paint/Massive wheels treatment, it is a manual and apparently very tidy, I think he got it cheap and fixed a few issues, he has just got it MOTd but no longer needs it having bought a Focus ST. I am going to have a go in it and may be interested, sort of looks like this,

Actually, that may be the SWB which this isnt but you get the idea.

I think as standard they don't look as "medallion man" and really, nowadays they just arent all that flashy, next to an Audi A5 they look a bit small and unassuming.

So, worth a look, or are they just a big dollop ?

I imagine the "Bork" potentially is quite high.

How much is a standard, unmolested 300 TT worth, I have a figure of two grand in my head.

Have a soft spot for these but if something does go wrong they can be pig to work because of the packed engine bay from what I've heard.

It depends on condition but from looking at the classifieds £2000 is cheap if it's a TT manual.

But don't tell him that wink

Yeah, but Pistonheads classifieds tend to contain a lot of sellers with very enthusiastic pricing, a look at the completed listings on Ebay suggests 2 grand is about right, will say a grand to start biggrin

I was looking on ebay, most around 2k are non-turbo.

Bid him £1000 anyway hehe

I love these, but only in standard guise.

I don't think they're particularly good looking, but at the same time they look 'right'...

And like every Japanese sports car, this one is the reason the Japanese introduced a 280PS limit. scratchchin

Ah, the car that made me Twin Turbo smile

Sold mine about 6 years ago. A good car, and mine was reliable (water pump and brake master cylinder where the major failures in my time with it). The turbo seals were starting to go when I got rid though.

I still think it's a looker.

Its a gorgeous, gorgeous car in LWB. SWB is too clipped in the roofline.

Gave its headlamps to the Lamborghini Diablo too - pub facts are nice.

I REALLY like them, standard is a must though. 90% are chuffing horrid.

Trouble is, I like my 944 (even though it wont go in reverse since I changed the gear selector) so not sure this would make a good repalcement or not, both isnt an option according to my wife biggrin

As said, not cheap to fix and I know people who have or who have had one. They do still look good (what with them Diablo headlights wink ) but starting to date a little.

I still think you have to be slightly brave to buy one though.

My mate used to run a 450bhp 300ZX. It was mentally fast! Very quiet and seemed well made too.

With the price of them now wonder if it would be worth buying two. One to drive and one as a source of spare parts.

A cracking car for the money.

2 grand is not a trivial sum of money to most of us on here but out there in normals land there are folk that think dropping 20 plus grand on Diesel Astra makes sound financial sense, which in three years will be worth ten grand if they are lucky.

I agree but in "real life", keeping up payments is part of ownership. Facing a bill like that is rarely budgeted for and what with tax, insurance, fuel, what usually happens is the MOT fail signals a period off road. I have a good income but would still resent a bill like that.

While this topic is here, what do you guys consider to be the most reliable (in standard or stage 1 basic tune) out of...

Skyline R32
Toyota Supra
Nissan 300ZX

Depends on the car. The Supra (or even the 300) could be 8 odd years younger than the youngest R32.

I suspect that the Supra would be the least likely to have problems. Certainly it would be the cheapest to fix.

Also worth considering the buy prices. 300s are very cheap, Supras are reasonable and R32s (if we are talking GTRs) are more expensive. For the price of a half decent R32 GTR you could buy 4 300s...

Twin Turbo, those wheels really suit the car. I had the same wheels on my MR2, which transformed the look, but I think they look even better on your car.
