I was flicking through my car's manual a few months ago and I stumbled on a sentence which said, "afer starting the engine, wait 10 seconds before setting off."

I didn't think anything of it but ever since, whenever I start the car I immediately think of it and I can't help but wait before setting off. I'm pretty sure it'd be fine if I didn't and most of the time it's probably much longer than ten seconds anyway but I can't stop it popping into my head and nagging me every time I turn the ignition.

I was happier in my ignorance.

Anything you wish you hadn't found out about your car?

For Citroens with hydropneumatic suspension, steering and brakes, that's excellent advice. One of the guys at BCA didn't heed that, drove 10 yds to a sharp left turn in the rows of parked cars. Guess what happened.

If I'm watching a sci-fi film I sometimes wish I didn't know so much Physics, when I start shouting at the screen about some ridiculous pseudo-science.

That the original dealer-fit rear plate on my Golf was evidently fitted after a pub visit, using a pistol drill and self-tappers into the tailgate clap
