My old man is going to buy a Touareg V10 tomorrow, he has paid a deposit (but not seen the car yet)

Obviously these things will cost a fortune if they go wrong, what are the important areas to check?

I can't comment on the V10, but I did own a 3.0 Tdi for 3 years. The Touareg is very sensitive to the wheel alignment & geometry. Check all the tyres are wearing evenly, and on the test drive find a level road without too much of a crown in the middle & check the car does not drift to the side in a straight line.

The V10 will likely eat brakes given the weight of that engine, so look for pad & disc wear. They're not cheap to replace. If it has air suspension, check it is working properly.

Build quality on mine was great, but I did have a couple of persistent issue with air con leaks on the piping in the engine bay. As in any 2nd hand car, check that everything works.

Hope he enjoys it.

Yep lots of electrical bits to go wrong, so check them all. Also I think the V10 has a habit of eating gearboxes. Very cool cars with the V10 though.

Driveline issues too, CV joints, diffs etc etc. Potentially massive bork factor but you might be lucky. Awesome when they work ok though.

A stupid new word that has spread across the forum, I guess it means the ability to fail/go wrong, my kids come home from school using silly new words, it's very hard to take anybody who uses it seriously.
