I realise this topic has been done to death but I had a ridiculous reaction today that deserves recounting.

I've had the new car for a week, had loads of smiles, thumbs up and pictures taken, it's been really nice and positive. Had a little issue with some of our traveller friends screaming abuse at me in their strange guttural language in some traffic but I just laughed uproariously at their crappy van and drove off. Frankly that's to be expected so doesn't really register, but today I had an altogether more dangerous encounter.

Came off the bypass in my town and was driving up the hill toward my house, a large, cargo type lorry was coming down the hill, two blokes in it, sort of wagon you see delivering electrical goods. As he came toward me he pulled a proper screw face, real hatred, and then suddenly yanked his steering wheel to the right, came straight across onto the wrong side and then yanked it back again at the last second, missing my by inches!
Why the fk would someone do something this dangerous? A huge lorry, pavements with pedestrians with kids in tow, just after a crossing and loads of other traffic about?

For some reason I didn't steer left into the curb, which would have ripped my rims to st, just ploughed straight on and passed with inches to spare. It's a pretty narrow road anyway and I was only a foot or so from the curb to start with.

This wasn't "playful" or "having a dig", this was just plain fking mental.

I've had nice cars before and am used to the odd idiot who wants to have a go for some reason but this was really, proper scary. What could possess someone to pull st like that? The bloke doesn't know me from Adam.

Sounds like a nutjob. You wonder what he'd think might happen had it gone wrong for him?

Only real hassle I had was from a drunk bloke coming out of a pub around 2pm, I was driving my new-to-me Elan (m100) with the roof down. This bloke stumbled into the road shouting '' at me and waving his hands around. Kind of surreal, I dont know if he thought I was some show off bd or whether it could have been anyone

This is why I have a nice anonymous daily. I love the Tiv but it really polarises opinion. Went out for a half hour blat this evening - had some idiot in a small Citroen up my arse in traffic for a mile or so before trying to overtake me on the outside of a roundabout and getting cross when I took the exit I indicated that I would take! On the other hand, 5 minutes later a guy in a Clio pulled up next to me at the lights and told me it sounded great!

Day to day I just want to blend into the background. Cloaking device on the TVR would be nice too!

I unfortunately have never been in the position to own such a car, when i see these 'super cars' i'm not any way filled with hatred or anything close, i'm just happy to see one on the road. If my numbers ever came up this really would be a dampner with one of these cars, something i've never considered until you posted this. As said i hope this is an isolated case of pure jealousy, or maybe he dropped his phone gawping at your car causing him to swerve!

Well obviously calibrax, but this was serious lunacy, had he timed it wrong by even a split second it could have been fatal, it was honestly that dangerous.

It might be an Essex thing. I have always had loads of positive reactions to my cars but I've also had a fair share of nutters.

I can see this was due to the fact that the idiot thought you should have been closer to the curb, hence his stupid swerve towards you. Never had this in the Noble, but had a lorry driver swerve out as we came towards the end of a dual carrageway to try to stop me overtaking him. At the next roundabout we had a "friendly" chat about his dangerous move. He wasn't to keen to bully me face to face. As I said to that clown, thats why he drives a lorry and I don't!!!

OP, whilst I'm sorry to hear of such stupid behaviour, somehow it doesn't surprise me. I've felt uncomfortable driving my not-all-that-impressive Focus RS in certain situations, so I can imagine what ridiculous responses a new Lamborghini would trigger in some people.

I think the most awkward moment I've experienced was upon collecting my then girlfriend after a night out in a city centre past midnight on a Saturday. I had to wait a couple of minutes for her to come out and in that time it led to a group of drunken chavs threatening to kick it because I was clearly a 'rich '. I just drove off, but it was an awkward and worrying few moments, that's for sure. It's certainly changed my habits - I'd never enter a similar situation in a car that's even remotely interesting ever again (indeed, I had only used it that night because my work Clio was really low on fuel).

I'm considering a few different cars for my next choice in a couple of years' time - one is an Aston Martin DBS and the other is a Nissan GT-R. I can't think of two other performance cars that will elicit such polarised reactions from those folk who are hard of thinking. People seem to love Aston Martins, but I can imagine the GT-R really being a moron magnet.

This guy will probably have been having a bad day, a delivery driver or equivalent level whose boss was probably giving him a hard time. As he cannot 'stick it' to The Man because he needs the job he decides to ruin your day. These sort of twunts carry on like this because they are not happy with how their lives have turned out and want to bring everybody else down too. There is definitely a compliment in his outrageous attitude to you and your car! Take solace in the sure fact that if he frequently acts like this he will probably get 'filled-in' in the not too distant future, law of averages!..

..lovely car, I am very jealous..but in a good smiley way!..

I am inclined to agree - and do it soon. Sadly the perception sprouted by many is that it's the more expensive car driver who is likely to be at fault. In some respects, you need to cover yourself as much as you can.

You work bloody hard for that car I hope this experience doesn't take the shine away from it as that would be a great shame.
