I did a MyTextCheck on a car RV53 UFT and it came back saying.

Maybe damage category D, however as it has undergone a plate transfer further investigation is required.

What does this mean? I know about cat a,b,c,d but could the car have had a private plate and then be transfered back to a non original plate with a cat D attached to it from a different car

About to buy - any help welcome

Do a proper HPi check on it.

It'll cost around £20 but will be worth it.

The CAT D might belong to a car that the cherished plate was previously on. Do a proper HPi check.

Would a private plate with a cat d show againsted every car it gets transfered on to?

So is a cat D recorded to a reg number or a vin number?

No, but the plate was linked to a car that's been cat D written off. As others have said, do a full HPI check and you'll be able to see the situation.

Ok so just paid for a HPI report and -

The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 10/05/2011 (original plate)

M900NEL was applied to this vehicle on 08/12/2006
This VRM has been recorded as being written-off
The insurance write-off was recorded on 12/04/2011 against a MERCEDESBENZ CLK 270 CD

RV53UFT was applied to this vehicle on 04/04/2006
There are no interests recorded against RV53UFT

HHL824 was applied to this vehicle on 19/08/2005
There are no interests recorded against HHL824

RV53UFT was applied to this vehicle on 11/11/2003
There are no interests recorded against RV53UFT

The car is 3 hours away so I wanted to be sure, if it was near I could have had a look before i bought it, im usualy good at spotting write offs (i've fixed a few).
Thinking back now the guy told me that it had a different spec bumper on it as it had an AMG one before that had got stolen. (HPI says no record of stolen recovered, so it must be bumped)
It has one key (they are £230 for a new one) so thats why it was not replaced after the w/off as it eats into their proft.
The car does have service history but this could be fake.

Well done HPI, looks like someones going to buy a lemon soon.........
