I've made two trips recently, both taking a similar length of time but covering wildly different miles.
I'm interested to know what journeys other people have covered in the UK, in a 24 hour period, just for a reasonably average journey.

My journeys

Journey 1

Last weekend - 524 miles started at 06:30 am and finished at 11:45pm at night (with commute to work in the middle) total driving time 10.5 hours

Journey 2
Got caught in the snow travelling to Scotland and had to abort in Preston (p.s. that Snowman built on the fast lane of the motorway in Wigan was mine smile Started journey at 6pm and finished at 04:30am covering 245 miles in 10.5 hours

Larne to Swansea was quite a hike, but recently drove Swansea - Bristol - Malmesbury - Darlington in a oner.

Longest ever (and outside the UK sorry) was Lancaster to La Courtine in mid France in a Bedford TM (10 ton Army truck), my co-driver was an absolute biff, so I had to drive all the way. Knackering but fun.

Back in 2011 I did an economy drive - BMW UK HQ in Bracknell to John O'Groats in a MINI Cooper D on a single 40 litre tank of diesel. Left at 7.30pm on a Thursday night, drove through the night arrived around 11.30am on the Friday morning. 676 miles - averaging over 75mpg - and we made it (on fumes).

In a 24 hour period I drove my Brother from the Wirral, to Portsmouth for a Navy medical, then back to the Wirral, then from the Wirral to Faslane, and drove back on my Todd.

Just checked, and it's just over a 1000 miles.

The law limits driving time to 9 or 10 hours a day for professional drivers, with mandatory breaks.

There's a reason.

To protect their cargo.....living or packaged ???
Doesn't seem to bother our friends on the other side of the pond though, and doesn't seem to bother the thousands of car drivers over here !!

ps, my longest day in the "saddle"...left Ullapool at 6.30am,drove down west coast, over Applecross, down past Oban, down to Loch Lomomd, over to Edinburgh down A68 eventually to Scarborough arriving at 11.00pm. Had a few photograph stops though....clocked 585 miles.........smile

Aberdeen to Salisbury took about 12.5 hours in unbelievably heavy traffic. It seemed to be very busy from southern Scotland all the way to the Gloucester area where I ducked off towards Swindon. I was fried when I got home.

For the record, I once made the same journey, by a different route, in 7.5 hours.

I once drove from Norwich to Teesside, slept in the car over night, did a track thing and then drove home. For maybe 2 hours in 24 I wasn't in the car.

Left Colchester at 2pm on a Saturday. Drove to Glagow airport to pick up my partner. Drove from there to Longnor in the Peak District to drop her friend off and then back to Colchester. Arrived 9am on the Sunday.

c.875 miles. Google maps says just under 15 hours of driving.

I drove from Glasgow to Penzance then back again. 1200 miles. Including dropping off the rental car and picking up the horrific drunken ebay purchase and driving it home was a total of 23 hrs.

It was fine until I picked up the shed. Didn't think it would make it back to Glasgow. it did, then it just kept going and wouldn't die. I had to sell it in the end.

Smelt of too..

I got the photos I wanted, so a good journey.

That's a real enthusiasts drive - poor car smile.

500-600 miles is pretty close to my limit and given the recommended max for professional drivers (stated by another user on here) is around 10 hours, that sounds about right. For the drivers that have covered closer to 1000 miles in one session, without sleep inbetween or sharing driving - your eyes must have been bleeding at the end of it!

Four of us drove down to Avignon (south of France) last autumn. That was 700 miles in one hit, with dodgy weather. Doesn't sound that much, but I was in my Dax. No windscreen/doors and only a 95 mile range per tank. That was hard work.

Inside the UK I think my toughest 24 hour stint was a drive up to The Lakes to do some location scouting. Started from London at 4am and aside from quick food and fuel stops I was in the car until 2am when I got back home. Just over 750 miles in total, with about a third of that through twisty minor roads. That was in an Elise too, but I was in my early 20s. Doubt I'd last that long now.

Have done Kent-Lands End-Wales-Kent via a slightly strange route over around 36 hours..

Didn't leave the car other than to fuel up/small rest breaks + had 2x4 hour power naps in the seat

Trip computer read ~1000 miles from memory
