Needed a rear wheel bearing for the Accord, and UK dealers wanted £257.00 or so for one. Ebay.com in the US could supply one for $65 or £43.00. Shipping added another $60 ( £39.90) so that was £82.90 delivered (in 3 days from the USA).

Imagine my surprise when the UPS man took another £27.00 for import duty and VAT. Now, £27.00 on an item that cost £43.00 is one hell of a percentage no ?

AFAIK they charge duty etc on delivery too (Which is very cheeky IMO, but explains why it was so much.)

Yep, import duty on parts 3.5% (iirc) is charged on the parts plus the shipping and then VAT is charged on parts + shipping + import duty. YOu will have also had a UPS processing charge.

Use Rock Auto, often you can pay the charges at the US end and it works out a bit cheaper as you don't have the handling charges to deal with.
