Just dropped my car off for its service and MOT tomorrow having emptied it beforehand. It came to mind though does everyone empty out everything is it a requirement?
Does everything need to be emptied or just the boot for access. It seems I've always done this got the habit from my dad but I have no clue the reasons behind doing it.

Why do they need to get in the boot?

I always empty the car for services/MOT as i don't want them to think I'm messy frown

you're better off spending the time to check that all the bulbs work and the brakes and tyres are in good condition

Every car I've ever owned (apart from a Caterham) has always been full of stuff when MOTd

It odd the rituals I go through for the MOT. I clean and empty all the 'stuff' out of the car. I suspect it harks back to the day .... that is I thought that if my car appeared to be looked after the tester would not be so vigilant..... probably completely misguided but I always did this and still do it out of habit today.

(I would also do basic checks like tyres/ lights etc. as well as the clean....)

Check spare tyre.

Mine is always empty anyway, I can't stand loads of stuff rattling about inside the car.

I always empty mine and give it a good clean before it gets sent for the MoT. Mine is this Sunday at 9:00! I also check all the lights etc work a few weeks before hand.

My work car can get rough at times! Pens, coins, paper and loads of window blind stuff! Had to be repaired once at a body shop and to my horror, some poor sod had bagged everything up in small clear bags! Was a touch embarrassing! Cool story bro, I know! smile

I empty mine.
It stops things from going missing when in their hands.
Although all I have inside is rubbish, cycling stuff, work stuff and general tat. Nothing worth pinching so I don't know why I do it.

It's not a testable item, but all the MOT stations I have been to will inspect it to let the owner know if it is unserviceable.

It's common courtesy not to present your car for MOT whilst it's full of crap. Then again common courtesy doesn't seem to be very common these days.

That only makes them look harder IME, and they can refuse to test a really filthy car.

eh? Why would an MOT tester give a crap if there is 'stuff' kicking about in the boot or the back seat?

always empty a car before it goes for MOT or any service work. My cars tend to usually be full of expensive gadgets and other bits, so its as much about not giving people temptation as anything else. I certainly wouldnt realise, for example, if one of my satnavs had gone missing for a few days after
