Chaps,

Got a bit of a problem.

I live in a private residential area. A guy parks his car on the private road as a "free" parking and walks to the station every day to save money on a car park st the station. The cost of all day parking is £4 per day which is relatively cheap.

I confronted him that hes not allowed to park his car on a private residential area and he says hes allowed to park there - WTF?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

Thanks

Do you mean "private" as in "private" ie it is tresspassing to enter or just an area made up of residential homes?

If the latter, if there are no parking restrictions in place then I dont think there is anything you can do.

assuming he really isn't allowed to park there...

It would be a`right pita to have to find out who has boxed you in after a long day at the office. Every day. All to save 4 quid.

But please - only do this if it is genuinely private, not just royston vasey private.

Assuming it is a proper private road. It shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Two concise, politely written notes, requesting he refrain from parking, or action will be taken should he persist for a third time. On the third time, two 4x4s parked right in front and right behind his car, with a mobile number on his windscreen for him to call to get the cars removed if he agrees no more parking there. Make sure they are moved swiftly. If he infringes again, block him in and leave him there all night.

As others have said is it a private road or just a residential road?

Either of which would be criminal offences.

If it really is private property, get some signs and enforcement, or ideally gates.
If on the other hand it is land adopted as part of the public highway then he probably is allowed to park there.
It may be 'only' £4 a day, but every day that works out to nearly £100 a month, which is more than some people have as disposable income after paying all their bills, transport, house keeping etc for the month.

At no point have you stated how this causes you any problems

Is he blocking you in?

Or are you just objecting on general principle

Nothing? One of those big sticky things on windscreen saying "don't park here" would work quite quick imho. They take an age to remove apparently.

TX.

Edit - to the naysayers, how would you feel if this plum was taking up a space in your street meaning you had to park further away from your suitably impresive mansions?

We used to have a communal residential car park. It was forever causing grief. Even with allocated spaces and windscreen parking permits, it would be abused on a daily basis and that was when we had clamping. No-one gives a censored anymore about where they park.

Where I live now is even worse. If you confront them, they think you're something they've stepped in. One day I'll follow one home and park in his front garden for a couple of days and see how he likes it.

Or offer him a nice safe space on your drive for £2 a day while your at work? He gets cheap parking, you get £10 a week beer money and it makes it look like the house isn't empty all day :-)
