LRG Pro Kart, twin honda GX 160 5.5hp

Morning all,

I'm new to the forum and was just hoping to get a bit of advice on Kart prices?? I've been visiting local tracks for a while now and just hiring all the kit at £45.

Recently I've been given the chance to buy a 9yr old LRG Pro Kart, twin honda GX 160 5.5hp for £850, it appears to be in good condition and runs well but is this a fair price for a 9yr old kart??

Seems steep.

I bought a 10 year old twin engined chassis (only 1 gx200) fitted for £200 a few years ago.

Solo taurus Chassis (TK Copy) all in good nick for £300 off of ebay. Would keep up around the twisties with a twin engined job no problem.

Does seem steep. I gave £1,300 for a 4 year old championship winning kart (shame I couldn't drive it for toffee!).

Cheers for replys, apparently the kart comes with spare set of slicks, stub axles, 2 clutches, 2 air filters, exhaust and side pods.

Cheers intrepid44, I've been humming and haring over it as I'm keen to get into karting but £850 is fair wedge of money at the end of the day. Is it the age of the Kart that's the issue?? The amount of spares ??

Those spares could be junk, so I wouldn't be that interested in what spares it comes with to be honest, much better to buy new spares and replace when it needs it. At 9 years old, I think it's safe to assume that it hasn't be used competitevly for quite a while. You don't know what condition the engines are, whether they've been tuned by RPM or other such, if it's for just laugh on the otherhand and not racing, then yes it'd probably be adequate but there are much better, faster and cheaper karts available.

I would recommend you go and have a look around on a club race day at your local circuit, and get a feel of what's going on, ask people plenty questions. Find out what's being raced locally, but also bear in mind that some circuits will have noise restrictions and potentially force you into 4-strokes. I see you're in the Northeast, so I take it Warden Law is your local circuit, they do have a big grid of Prokarts so it may be worth looking into that, or alternatively Rotax Max, still, have a looks around ask people, and try and get someone to help you out and give you advice on buying a kart.

Don't buy it, very few tracks support grids for pro karts. Buy a rotax max instead, as said above
