Honestly, how are 17 year olds getting insured?

I have been looking at quotes for a few days now, and nothing has come cheaper than £2500
I have tried Micras, Yaris, Corsas etc.
Even the black box insurance is over £2500.

Been using comparison sites.

Where should I look and what should I get quotes for car wise?

I think £2500 sounds pretty reasonable. Maybe you need to adjust your expectations.

My wife's wee brother just had this. He's 17 and just passed his test. He was £3k from everywhere then managed to get it to £2500. For a 2007 1.4 petrol 307.

It's not good. It just seems to be the cost it is these days.

How come 17 year olds have been getting below £2000 confused Unless they're fronting, I don't see how it's possible.

Maybe you're right though.. might just stick to bikes at this rate!

Put on an insanely high excess and hope they don't crash?

90% of the premium is to cover the third party risk, which is not subject to the excess, so that will have very little effect. Plus a 17 y/o will have a high compulsory excesss for own damage written into the policy automatically.

Churchill I think it is.

He is now sharing that car with his Dad (which wasn't the original plan) so that's as a named driver on the Peugeot. His Dad had to take his own car off the road and they now share this one as the cost was too high for him on his own - something like £3k

Scary stuff.

And there was me moaning at paying £400 a year for my 318d and the same for my 848... Must be getting old!

You'd be surprised. I've just gone 21 but my excess from 18 was £1000 and it saved me a good 50% compared to a normal excess

I think at 17 you'll find it is very dependent on your postcode.

I've just been doing some quotes to see what it will be for my little brother, so I've got him down as 17 and 4 months and just passed the test.

On a 1.2 Fiat Panda it's £1750 for 10k miles a year, £750 excess which is through Admiral. A 1 litre Corsa with the same details is £1486.

Have you got 2 experienced claim free named drivers? Not much else I can suggest to be honest.

Add two named drivers to the policy.
I paid £1100 at 18 as the main driver 8000 miles per year 1 year ncb on a 1.8 Ford Focus.

I live in HA4, which is apparently the most high risk.
But I could also get insured at my Mums house in Milton Keynes (MK16)

I'll try a few more quotes with a higher excess and post back.

I've just tried 2 postcodes I found on Google for where it is parked over night.

On the Corsa:

HA4 6DQ: £3159

MK16 9EY: £1867

Shows how much of a difference it is!

Postcodes are grouped A-F, A Being Cheapest, with a caveat of * where by you can often not get cover on Bikes and soft tops. I live in an E* area and pay about double what i would pay in a B area...so Post code makes a massive difference.

OP is HA4 Hillingdon? That will be pap.

Try phoning up as well as using the comparison sites. I got a quote for £3600 from Tescos via the internet, when I rang up and gave the exact same details it dropped to £800. I appreciate I'm a lot older and its a performance car, but it might be worth a shot.

Younger family member, 10 months via Elephant - £1070 on 1998 KA. All because it's been in our family for 3 years it would seem.

Ruislip indeed.

Going to try a few more quotes now on different cars.
Suggestions?
