My WRX was such a example.. from 4th to 5 gear it didnt save any fuel.
It didnt matter if i drove that thing with 2000 rpm or 2500 rpm, the amount of the fuel was almost the same.

I guess it has to do with the missing direct injection technology...

Are there more cars around who dont save fuel even when youre going "very soft" ?

I think the fuel saving problem was caused by buying a WRX lol.

Between 2000 to 2500 Rpm and your not noticing any difference in MPG, its unfortunately bad news that's a sure fire symptom that you car has Car Aids.

Sell it and get a micra

you really expect a massive difference between 2k rpm and 2.5k?
your car probably has a fairly long flat torque curve so away from the extremes of the rpm range where torque drops off the fuel efficiency will be reasonably similar. There is a slight decrease in internal loses due to friction at a lower rpm, but this is probably too small to notice at these relatively low rpms

With direct injection it can go the other way, they have an ultra lean burn mode which they can only do with a very light throttle, changing up can actually lose fuel efficiency if you go out of ultra lean mode
