Yaris T-Sport vs Ignis Sport??

Hey guys new to this, im looking to buy a small hatch which is a good all rounder and a bit sporty

The 2 ive narrowed it down to are the suzuki ignis sport and the yaris t-sport.. they seem very similar on specs

I have considered corsas, fiestas, c2 vts and suzuki swift

Swift would be my choice but need to save up more ... what you recommend guys ???

Yaris T Sport is quite good value compared to other Yaris models - as no one wants a sporty Yaris (ask yourself why?). In general the Yaris is an over priced choice due to its popularity.

A Swift 1.5 much better value than a Yaris and drives better than a Yaris if you are looking for something sporty.

Not had an Ignis but it looks like a van with windows so not sure what the appeal of a Sporty Ignis might be?

I own a Yaris T-Sport (and run an online forum for the Model), the MK1 Yaris is a pretty solid car, really reliable, fly through MOT's. And very fun to drive, capable of 40mpg at least depending on how you drive.

Well specc'd, the T-Sport was top of the range when it was released so all have remote central locking, a sunroof, CD player and air con.

@Rallycross My budget is around 2500-3000 dont really want to pass it and to pick up a decent used swif would cost a lot more (at least i think?)and the ignis seems like a little go kart and ive heard good reviews (but yeah i agree its the ugliest out of the lot)

@aidancky Thats a nice car mate, the yaris really appeals to me for looks (some say girls car i disagree)but they do seem a little pricey considering the age i have been looking at at 3grand for a 2001 yaris...

Bottom line is i cant afford a hot hatch and want something small and nippy with half decent looks and mpg really stuck in what to get atm.

hi there i have an ignis sport had it 4 years currently sorned because i was a idiot, back on topic imho the ignis sport is a great little car its nippy decent handling car its never let me down and they do stand up to a crash i should know i put it into a field 2 years ago its really up to yourself what you think of them but i really cant see me getting rid of mines anytime soon infact i plan to get it on the road summer time when i have a clean lisence

The Suzuki Swift would be your choice if you had your way, yes? I'd take the Ignis Sport over the Swift Sport (and I have a lot of time for the mk1 Swift Sport, it's a really good little car). The challenge these days is finding a good one. I am sure there are some around, but when my dad was looking to buy one last year every red or black example he went to look at was pretty shonky in the flesh (and he didn't want the vile yellow colour, or a pensioner's blue one either).

It's also worth considering the smaller French stuff at that price point too. 106 and 306 GTi's, Rallyes, Saxo VTS etc etc.

@wr86 Yeah when i said ugliest it was a bit harsh lol i just meant that i thought that was the worst looking out of my choices but yeah they do seem like good little cars! Its gonna be a hard decision to be honest! And ok will do!

@baryonyx I would like the swift sport yes but they are just too pricey for me at the moment due to me losing my full time job and only working part time now... but yeah what are the 1.5 GLS like??? So you think the Ignis would be the best option out of that yaris and swift? defo the cheapest anyway. I have considered 106 GTI, C2+Saxo VTS but to be honest i dont really want another french car lol.

So.... So far the ignis, yaris and swift got good and bad points not making my decision easier lol :P

I wouldn't even bother with a non-Sport Swift. They're the sort of thing your granny would go shopping in. Get the Sport, or get something else. Not particularly wild about the Yaris T Sport, a colleague has one and it doesn't particularly excite me. I love the JWRC feel and look of the Ignis Sport, and the fact you need to really rev the engine to get the best out of it. I recall test driving one, albeit a shabby example, when I bought my Focus. I wish I had held out for a decent Ignis! Mind you, even that slightly battered example was £5000 at the time. How times have changed!

I currently own an Ignis sport and I love the daft little thing.

Feels a lot more special than a yaris imho, really eggs you on push the most out of it. People seem to thing they have the same engine and they do not. I love the way the Ignis come on cam, and it really gels with the close ratio gearbox.
Sadly I have to sell mine due to a baby on the way and my health issues are getting in the way of me driving it as much as I would like.

If you can find one in good condition, go for it, great fun car for the money.

One of my best friends has the Ignis Sport, I admit I laughed when I first heard but then I saw it in the flesh and boy did it look just right for a sporty little car.
Better still was the way it went and handled.
Theyre a fab car – really sporty but still capable of the daily grind without any effort.
Better still it returns good mpg etc too.
Its a win win really.

Oh and he’s selling it as his wife is now 5 months pregnant and they need something bigger.

Had my Ignis Sport for over a year now and done 20k without any issues.
Fantastic little car, really fun to drive with decent poke.
Interiors quite good too, because of it's shape i fit 2 mountain bikes in the back with the seats down ( front wheels taken off), plus it's got loads of cup holders and little shelves for things

They are a serious bargain too and can be had for £2 with decent miles.

Personally i perfer the looks and rarity of the Ignis, you can't really tell a regular Yaris from a T-Sport looks wise.

Wow guys the ignis was probably my least favorite choice when i first posted the topic but now I have to admit, im really liking it! I wanted the Tsport for looks but the more i look at the ignis the more its appealing to me! Looks very roomy to.


I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars to be honest i only know basic stuff so i appreciate the feedback

On auto trader looks like i could pick a decent ignis up for around 2grand which would be fantastic whereas the decent yaris are near on 3k...Still got a soft spot for the yaris though haha

Similar in styling to to the ignis, very quick, and should be available for your budget.

as i said last night i plan i gettin my iggy sport sorted im thinking of fitting coilovers lightweight rims & other possible mods just need to concentrate getting it on the road first lastly go on buy the ignis you know you want to

you may get one for £2k, but it wont be "that" decent - better to pay a little more and get a much better car.

Been busy guys,ive replied to @wonkyhorn about the car.

Yeah i know man i am willing to spend a bit more for a decent car but to be honest i was looking at abou 2500 max but you never know

@furrywoolyhatuk yeah the yrv turbo is a decent suggestion but i would prefer 3dr tbh.

From what ive read the ignis seems to be the more 'Fun' car and good value for money and the yaris seems to be the more relaxed car (if that makes sense)

I had an Ignis Sport for a couple of years and loved it. They are great, cheap, little cars. Steering is a bit numb but they are bombproof and don't isolate you from the road much so feel faster than they are. Engine and box work really well together so heel and toe is a joy. Just don't get one if you plan on doing lots of motorway mileage because they are noisy and geared too short for cruising.
