Does anyone use the 6mm fly lead for the above charger? Tried it out and the charger was erroring.
Disconnected the battery terminals and used the clips and seems to be charging (at least got further on its programme)...

Ideas as to why it wasn't working with it connected??

I don't use the one that came with the charger, because it wasn't quite long enough. I bought the accessory lead with the charge status LEDs, and that works fine.

Must be a bad connection somewhere if the croc clips work, but the permanent lead doesn't.

Is it a new charger, or has it worked before?

Have you put it into the correct mode?

Best thing to do is try it on another car. If it still fails, it's faulty. If it's OK, your battery is dead.

I bought my Ctek to try and revive the battery in my 911. Didn't work, so I fitted a new battery. It's been fine since, keeping the battery topped up.
It's also charged my E61 a couple of times, before I gave in and replaced the battery on that, too.

Modern car batteries just don't seem to last like they did back in the day. 5 years seems to be the norm before replacement.

Yes, my car has been on a Optimate since October 2012, and it has spent many a winter in hibernation in this manner.

If the car's not being used, leave it connected.
My car gets used every couple of weeks at this time of year, so I don't leave it connected, just plug it in every week or so.
If I leave it connected, one day I'm sure I'll drive off without disconnecting it!

Weird why the 6mm spade connector/lead didn't work. Should I disconnect the battery when charging on the spade connector lead? Dad said it will fk the alternator if connected up?...

So how come it didn't charge with the spade, but only when disconnected from car?..

Don't know, I've got an Optimate hooked up to the car using the ring terminal connector lead and that charges with the battery still connected, 4 close friends all have Ctek chargers on their cars using same lead and there's all charge with the battery connected as well, maybe there is an issue with your lead..........

ETA, try connecting the croc clip connector lead with the battery connected and see if it charges.

No need to disconnect the battery. The spade lead is designed to be permanently wired onto the battery, and the charger is perfectly safe - as long as it's a genuine CTek, not a knock-off.

Thought you meant that the croc lead worked on the car - did it only work with the battery disconnected?

Could be that you have a fault with the car - maybe something is draining the battery faster than the CTek is charging it.
Try it on another car to prove that the charger and leads all work OK. If they do, there must be a fault with the battery or the car.
