On higher spec Fords they have a feature called Quick Clear Windscreens, where there are tiny filaments of wire inside the glass that heat up and demist the windscreen really fast.

My Mum is currently in the market for a new car, and she basically will only have a Ford because they have that system. I couldnt think of any others off the top of my head so I thought I would ask if the Pistonheads Collective knew of any other systems which do the same job of fast windscreen demisting?

Thanks

Think Volvo had the same system for a while?

Would she be happy with Defender or Caterham?

Volvo used to be part of Ford's PAG, so may well have them.

A few others do have them, but Ford generally see, to be the only ones that do them. There are some aftermarket options, but they aren't as effective.

L322 Range Rover Vogues have heated 'screens. You can even buy heated screens for classic Mini's too!

It's an option on MINIs, I had it on my old Cooper S. Really useful bit of kit for a couple of days a year

As I said, there are other options, but DO NOT expect the same performance as a Ford Quickclear.

We have one fitted to our Fabia vRS. It does the job, but it is not in the same league as the one in the Mondeo.

Awesome thanks so much guys. I shall look into those.

Shes after an estate so Volvo may well be ideal.

I'm definitely going to suggest a Caterham though.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a high end Ford as my Fiesta Style has one specced

with the Climate pack and that's almost the poverty model

Why not just buy a car with a/c?

I find it works just as well.

VW have them and they work very bit as well as the Ford ones.

I don't like them, it's like looking through a slightly dirty screen all the time, especially at night when the elements defract oncoming headlights.

Very useful when iced over, but how many days is that per year?

No it doesn't. Quick clear screens will defrost ice on the outside of the screen in two minutes from a cold start.

My 1993 Range Rover Classic has one. I won't say all the elements are still working though hehe

I can't believe how quickly my 320ed demister starts working. I don't know if there is some form of preheater or heating element there but it's warm almost immediately. I've never known another car, especially a diesel, which is so good so I wouldn't restrict myself just to cars with quick clear.

Although Ford do state it is not to be used for this.... yet show it doing this in commercials!

Manual in mine says for demisting, not deicing.
