I seriously don't know why this has happened before, but I think I'm some sort of inspired genius... The solution to all the foglight woes exemplified on these very pages is right before our eyes, and came to me in a flash of inspiration whilst enjoying some "me" time in the smallest room in the house this morning!

Here it is. With only 100m visibility, surely it can't be safe to travel at any more than 30mph? So - as well as activating the foglights, the switch also activates a 30mph speed limiter.

No more numpties forgetting to turn them off - as soon as fog clears as they can't acelerate, off they go. No more chav posing with foglights because they'll be slowed to a crawl. I think this may actually be a perfect idea, it's literally flawless...

Such inspiration!
Where ever did this idea spring from?

I thought you were going to propose the, er, other final solution.

Indeed. Sure I read this someplace quite recently......

As an aside and on the subject of the thread title: I used to work for a company in Munich (on the Dachau Street by coincidence) and was having a thorny programming issue. The team leader, a squat, skinhead ex-army type (actually a very nice bloke) eventually started getting quite irate and came out with the unfortunate line "I demand zat you gif me ze final solution!!!" shouted at the top of his voice. I don't know how I kept a straight face.

True, fog lights will still be on! Who goes 30mph on the motorway in any weather?

Highway code reckons you can stop from 70mph in 96m so not sure it would get far...

You could fit a mild electric shot to the foglight switch. Then it will only be used in desperation scratchchin

I may also have had several beverages...

Speed limiters are not the way forward.

Answer = when fog lights are on, your car will always play 'fog o' the tyne is mine all mine' by Gazza on a loop, very loudly.
