Starting a apprentership which is alot closer than college in sept, so mpg isnt a problem.

Im 18 so insurance is still a problem.

For up to £2000 what would you recommend as a weekend car?

Not a mx5 or mr2.

Any thing is possible as insurance is strange, quoted

£800 for 90 bhp focus,

£1100 for a 200bhp range rover lse,

£1200 for a 300bhp 300zx

Now i imagine the range rover would cause the most damage in a crash due to size and weight. Dont understand it all tbh.

This is PH, everyone will still suggest them! How about an e36 BMW.

What about one of these?

200bhp out the box, very tuneable engine, loads of aftermarket parts available and a big owners club communities (AOC) to help with DIY servicing / repairs / upgrades.

I had one at your age and took it up to near on 300bhp - was great fun.

Get a classic car - insurance will likely be cheaper too.
Pre 1973 are road tax exempt.

Fair enough, helps narrow down what you're looking for in a car. So looks are more important than handling, is power important to you? The 300ZX you mention could be a decent option but does have potential for some fairly big bills if it goes wrong, and a lot of power for a (probably) quite inexperienced driver.

Mazda RX7 FC turbo 2. Insurance might be surprisingly cheap. My old UK FD was £700-800 at 20. The FC is a lower group than the FD
