Is it just my area or is it now common to find potholes are being left for huge lengths of time and nothing is being done about them? In recent months they have appeared but have been repaired moderately fast. Normally a crap repair job that lasts 2 weeks, but repaired none the less. It seems that nothing is being done about them now. There are huge holes around here, big enough to throw bikers right off and destroy car tyre/wheels. There is even one near by (A26 Boars Head roundabout just otuside Tunbridge Wells) which has been circled and written next to it "Fix me".

So what is it? Is there no money left to repair the roads? I understand road tax and the way it works. I also understand we pay a considerable amount of tax in this country for everything else as well and I just wonder what exactly are we getting in return. Take Norway - they have their head screwed on and a recent journey through that part of the world was magnificent so why o why can't we have similar condition roads. I know the car traffic on this side of the water is huge in comparison but surely as a direct result there is now more revenue from the increase in "Car Tax Payers"

This started out as a post about potholes but is a mini rant to be honest so I'll shut up now but for fks sake why do we have to put up with ste roads

No it's not just your area the roads are riddled with them, some of the local roads to me are basically falling part and now look like rough tracks.

Down the M1 last week I encountered loads of pot holes as well.

There are roads around me that I won't go down, they are that bad.

A common discussion with my colleague in the mornings (we car share) is where the latest potholes are so we can try and avoid them - not always visible when filled with water ... There was one particularly nasty one just of the brow of a hill which unless you knew it was there, you had no change of avoiding - fortunately we spotted it on the way to work, so could slow right down and avoid it on the way home.

I called he council the other day to report one, then I thought about it and in the end just 'reported' the whole (or should that be hole) road.

Mind you, I thought Wesk Berks roads were bad, but visiting Guildford over the weekend ...
My oh my, found one pothole that had you gone in it, you'd be lucky to get out again.

I'm a huge fan of fixmystreet.com for things like potholes. Not only have you actually made sure that the damned council are aware of their liabilities, you've made sure everyone else, who might ding wheels etc are also aware when, exactly, they were informed about them.

There are some quality craters around my way in Surrey. Most of them have been that way since before Christmas and are only getting larger as there's no hurry to get them fixed.

I wouldn't mind waiting months for potholes to be fixed if the repairs were decent! Most of the time they just get a shovel full of tarmac and a bit of a run over with the portable compactor, only to come apart again the next month!

TBH msot i've seen recently tend to utilise the wheels of their maintenance truck rather than dig the proper compactor off the back.

The A12 has a trench running along the entire width of the carriageway, I wince every time I drive over it.
