Hi guys,
at the moment I own a 2007 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro which is good to drive but it has hardly any room in the back for my mates and I'm starting to get bored of the car to be honest.
I want a hot hatch (Thinking of a Focus RS) or fast saloon (thinking of an Insignia VXR)...
I'm 18 years old, which one would be best?
(Please don't mention insurance, I have done my research!)
How have you done your research when you don't know what car??at the moment I own a 2007 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro which is good to drive but it has hardly any room in the back for my mates and I'm starting to get bored of the car to be honest.

Also why on earth would you want to buy a car for your mates???

Having £15-20k to spank on a motor at 18 years old is quite a privilege and something many people won't ever get. On this basis get something worthwhile and not s
te!New Focus ST-2 heavily discounted here http://www.uk-car-discount.co.uk/results.php?make=...

Volvo S60R for £6k and save the rest for an M5 when you can get it insured.
Kind of what I was thinking. I'd be tempted to buy something 'warm' whilst insurance is so prohibitive and bank the difference for a while until you can justify insuring something genuinely 'special'.Also the idea of an 18 year driving around in a VXR8 full of his mates in the same area of the country as I do terrifies me.

18 years old wih £15k-£20k to spend on a car?! Blimey!
Spend £10k on a racing car, £8k on a tow car, and £2k on a trailer.
Go and enjoy yourself. Balls to your mates.
I'm liking this. Spend £10k on a racing car, £8k on a tow car, and £2k on a trailer.

[stereotype]Probably not going to impress the ladies in the McDonalds car park though...[/stereotype]

Mk2 Focus RS is a terrific car- practical and plenty of options to modify as and when you are in the position. Even as standard it is a very fast and capable car. Will hold its value better than the Vauxhall.
So, what does insurance cost on either of those at 18, out of interest...?
I'd be interested to know too. 8k? 10k?So, what does insurance cost on either of those at 18, out of interest...?
Good choice on the VXR8, but if insurance is tough then Monaros are cheaper to buy and a 5.7 may be easier to insure? There's people on the forum who have them insured at 22 and it's not too bad...
There's an absolute cavern of room in the back of a Monaro, they just have to get in past the seats (which they'll be used to with the TT)
Plus a Monaro is a 2 door coupe, so for young people. Save the R8 for when you have a pipe and slippers

insurance is going to be around £4500 (not bad considering it cost me £3000 to insure my first car - 1.2 corsa), it's around that price for most hot hatches and saloons until it goes to the even faster ones like M3s, c63s & rs4s when the insurance goes over 25k as they don't want to insure young drivers on them obviously.
Moneysupermarket.com and confused.com are the only sites that quote me lol

I wish I could get insured on one, I'll wait til I'm 22 and insurance is cheaper, at the moment it's gonna be over 25k!There's an absolute cavern of room in the back of a Monaro, they just have to get in past the seats (which they'll be used to with the TT)
