Mannings worth a try.

I recently sent REIS a quote form, and I was in their minimum risk bracket, which made it £81 for £2500 of cover. I understand this is about right, and I imagine higher-valued stuff isn't a hell of a lot more.

Isn't it usually a waste of time due to the massive excess?

Try Competition Car Insurance. They provide me with my road cover and also 6 free track days.

My policy is underwritten by Aviva

Depends, my £2500 cover was with £500 excess. Had someone hit me in a big way I'd have been very glad to have it, but again I don't know how excess varies with insured value. Perhaps it's a flat 20% with that company.

Cover included in my Mannings policy for no extra charge. Additional £1000 excess though.

It all depends on the value of the car. For example my policy has a £4000 excess, but compared to the insured value to me it was a no brainer to take it for a piece of mind.
