Do Ferrari owners hate MR2 owners...?

Just imagine being the owner of a genuine AC Cobra and being asked if you built it yourself from a Ford Cortina.
There was an article in a Classic & Sportscar magazine back about 25 years ago where this situation arose. The journalists were taking a fake 427 (Dax I think, but at least with a Cobra-correct small block 289 Ford V8) along on a jaunt to a real Cobra bash in Northern France.
The journos' hearts sank when the ferry loader waved them on to a space directly behind a lovely genuine 289 Cobra, which was making the same trip. Sure enough a know-it-all Joe Public sauntered on over for a better look and got talking to the journos about their replica. When he'd finished, he moved on to the owners of the real car and said: "So has this one got a Rover V8 in it then?!
I had a mate with a Ferrari and he had it parked in centre spot in the car park in our town square on May day in a big special area for everyone to look at. I got half a dozen sixth formers, so spotty 17 year old yoofs, to individually go and chat to him, and each one asked him if it was a kit car. First two or three he was pleasant when he explained it's a real one but by the time the fifth lad asked him he'd got really wound up and told him "how many times do I have to effin tell you effin halfwits, it's a REAL effin ferrari". Then he saw me and the penny dropped and he chased me round the car park.
Whenever I see him now I ask him how his kitcar's doing and he gets all defensive.
T'is indeed a good windup for any Ferrari or lambo owner, just ask them if it's a kitcar. You won't make any friends but you might learn some new words
