I keep hearing from different people that you can get fuel from asda self service pumps if you have no money in your bank account because it takes around 48 hours for them to attempt to take the money, does anyone know if this is true?

I've no idea, but why would you want Asda fuel in your car?

Tesco take £1 to validate the card, and then authorise up to £99.

The actual amount is taken the next day or even the day after that.

is there actually any difference, or is it just snobbery?

Wouldn't the £99 pre-authorisation fail?

Sorry, taking the £1 authorises the pump to supply up to £99 of fuel.

They don't authorise the £99 on your card.

My car runs a bit smoother on Shell, but not enough to worry about.

Not sure about the original question, but i know for sure you can petrol anywhere you like with no money in the bank. Just fit some false plates, fill up and drive off driving

Because it is refined in the same refineries as all the rest and apart from a bit of cleaners added by the marketing boys to the big brands is identical to all other brands.

I do my shopping at Asda, but I won't put their fuel in my cars anymore. Anecdotes, placebo or otherwise, but it's sure as hell not snobbery when it comes to me.

^^ This hehe

In my neck of the woods, branded fuel is as cheap, if not cheaper than the supermarket stuff. Also, my neighbour and my mother both had their petrol car's Lambda sensors rogered by Tesco fuel from stations 40 miles apart a few years ago, so I don't buy the idea that all petrol/diesel is the same.

Plus, Shell have recently posted me a tenner's worth of Waitrose vouchers in return for my petrol and diesel custom (at identical price per litre to the local supermarkets) over the past few months, so it's a bit of a no brainer biggrin

We always use Asda for diesel, and generally it's 2-3 days, sometimes 4, before it comes out of our account. smile

There is an Asda self service near my Dad's and it is always the cheapest petrol in the area. However..... every time I have tried to fill up there it has refused my debit card. I hasten to add that there have always been funds available in the account and the card will then be accepted normally the next time I try to use it. I've always ended up having to use my Credit Card.

Anyone else had this at Asda?
