Was quoted £400 to have the offside rear quarter and n/s front corner of my car resprayed in silver.

Was told that they would blend rear quarter into door as they had both been painted before, whilst the bumper was going to have just the o/s corner refinished. The only reason for the work was to get the colour match correct as they had been done imperfectly by a previous owner.

Just spoken to the company who tell me they have painted the whole side of the car and the whole front bumper.

Its 'just' another £100 though.

I'm a bit miffed as they had 2 looks at the car to do a proper quote, so not too impressed at 'just' another £100. Should I be miffed or bend over and grin and bear it?

It's every time I have stuff done to whatever, it always costs more due to 'unforseen' problems. I feel that their lack of foresight becomes my problem not theirs.

Better be a perfect job!

To be fair, silver is a toughy to match. They may have blended into the door and it looked a dog's breakfast, so ended up doing the full hit. Likewise, painting 'half' a bumper, especially silver, is not conducive to particularly pleasing results. If they have done that additional work, and used all that additional paint (paint has never been dearer), then £100 is not worth getting upset about if the job looks right.

Depends on what they said when they quoted IMO. If they said they'd do what needed to be done to get it sorted for £400 then I'd be pretty annoyed. If they said it would be £400 to do the work you mention but it might be more if they needed to do more work to get a proper match then that would be fair enough.

My initial thought was that I'd be pissed off that they'd not phoned me to ask permission for the extra work, but it's not like you could have said no as that would have left you with the car probably in an even worse state so in reality what could have been done. A courtesy call would have been polite though.

Pretty much my thoughts. Teed off, but if the jobs good, then all will be fine. If the jobs poo, I will be narky, they are meant to be the experts!

That's the key, if the job really is decent then it's worth the extra to know that much.
