After several months of reading various posts it would appear to me that the most loathed car on PH would be an Audi A4 diesel Sline in white with upgraded alloys with a flappy paddle gearbox. Is this really such a bad car or is it that technology and success breeds contempt?

Certainly not a bad car, just one that epitomises the way that modern cars are drifting away from the driving enthusiast.

Not a bad car. Dreary and uninteresting, yes.

It looks good though. But it would need to considering Audi used more or less the same front end on across their entire range.

Vauxhall corsa? small, vastly inferior and crude in comparison to the fiesta. Stuff like daewoo/chevrolet clones are just outright ignored.

It's not the car as such, it's the people who drive them (usually about 6 inches off your rear bumper).

(This is extrapolated from a sample set of 1).

If these could be classed as cars I would say.

Modern Audis actually drive quite well for front wheel drive saloons. Sure, I'd rather be in something without all its heavy mechanical parts over the front wheels, but if did have to be, I can think of worse places to be than an Audi. Audi avoid that horrible nose heavy feeling and underdamped suspension that pervades a lot of modern cars. The worst car I've ever driven was the Peugeot 407 (utterly huge throttle delay, damping totally unsuited to the springs and to the car, over-servoed brakes, no steering feel etc etc), although I'm sure there are far worse out there - it's just that most of my car experience is either sports/racing cars or superminis and saloons from Avis.

That's me, and I mainly just care about how a car drives. PH though? Ph as a whole are obsessed with power and how rare a car is. Personally I couldn't give two hoots if I drove a car you saw everywhere and was underpowered (meet my daily driver!), but PH really care about these things. Ergo, a PH hated car must be very underpowered and very common, and it wouldn't do any harm if it handled badly too.

I've always found S-line Audis to be horrifically under-damped; as if they stiffen the springs but leave the same dampers as the standard suspension. The non-S-line cars drive alright, although I hate VAG's over-servoed brakes.
