Why? What is the benefit unless you have leaky dogs or kids?
Winter, frost bite to the arse. Summer sweaty burny pain. Corners, slidy. Braking slidy again. So why would you want it? It even smells of arse.

Beyond me. My E91 has leather, I think it was a standard option. It's getting a bit worn and I'm seriously considering having the seats repholstered in cloth.

Completely agree with you though - freezing in winter, sweaty in summer. Worst of both worlds.

Marketing people have told us it's something to aspire to :shrugs:

Personally, I like the look of leather, and proper leather can smell great. My car has a mix of leather and alcantara, and whilst the alcantara is nicer to sit on, it is a pain to keep looking clean.

Well for a start I think it looks lovely..

And if you slide around in braking or cornering, your seats aren't very good or your leather is crappy American shiny stuff.. As for smelling like arse, did you have a bad experience with some sort of leather object as a kid, or something? hehe I think well cared-for leather smells very nice.

It irritates me to see a car like my E46 with the crap flat cloth seats when nicely winged leather jobbies exist and make the car five times nicer to spend time in.

The only benefit appears to be it's wipe clean.
No advantage over the plastic seats of yesteryear. Give me velour anyday. You don't know comfort unless you have sampled a 80's Renault velour seat. R25....mmm sleepy time.

I'm a fan of cloth yet somehow I've ended up with two cars that have cow seats.

Come on even my Corsa's leather seats are heated. No problem in the winter and it looks much better than cloth. In summer that's a fair comment though.

I Love the smell of leather. other than that i dont really see what the fuss is about. I guess you can wipe it when it gets dirty/messy.

I think the quality of leather has changed over the decades... the inside of Grandads 1958 Rover smells great, they aren't worn and have never been repaired or treated

I remember those and the seats of dads 1979 two door Range Rover, especially the full width bench seat (Sofa) in the back

The black vinyl seats in Dads Series 2 Land Rover, will cook any uncovered skin on contact during the summer.

Not only does it look a million times better than cloth or pleblon, it smells very nice too. The kicker though - its a LOT MORE COMFORTABLE! Leather seats are always so plush, sculpted and comfy to sink into

Nice smell, looks nice, not too bad to clean - better then cloth seats staining. The hot and cold could be an issue but I have not had that problem yet. My mums old mini used to have leather seats and that used to burn my legs in the summer when I wore shorts when I was little.

All in all I would give a big thumbs up to leather seats!

I'm not bothered about leather seats. As said, it's slippy so you do move around in the corners, hence a lot of manufacturers using big alcantara bolsters to hold you in. I'll take a cloth + alcantara bucket thanks.

What a bell. How can someone so skint that he starts a thread about a shop giving him the wrong change feel so superior?

Anyway, I prefer leather. I don't find it that cold on a winter morning and besides all the subjective stuff about aesthetics and feel etc it's comfier for me. I tend to fidget a fair bit when I'm driving, especially if I'm sitting in traffic and find that in cloth seats my trousers ride up.

It is a consideration for me when choosing a car, but not a major one.

Half leather and half alcantara is nice.
I've had the terrible experience of spending a lot of time in cars with vinyl seats. They get awfully hot in the summer and tend to stick to your legs if wearing shorts. They also seem to make you sweat allover. It is dreadful having to endure betty swallocks in the car!

Apart from being easier to clean IMO cloth is better in every other way.

So yes, I always prefer to be touching cloth...
