What put's you off mileage? It would be well maintained by cops? No?

Under 5k for a 530d on a 58 plate eek that has full service history and mileage that isn't that high on that engine.

In a heartbeat yes yes

Good spec? are you sure?

Ex Police cars normally have rubbish specs. Somtimes adverts list the standard spec for that car rather than the actual spec the car has though.

Persoanlly i'd avoid a 150k BMW diesel regardless of who had owned it. Has a lot of potential for big bills.

Not a chance.

Have you ever seen police camera action? You know when they take the car over speed bumps without slowing down, or get rammed by car thieves, or have drunks throw up in the back seat?
That's your next car that is!

Price. How much would one be that wasn't owned by the "rozzers" and had say 70,000 miles on it.

Also lets not forget, to clock up such mileage in that time it's likely mostly motorway. And Police cars aren't always in high speed chases non stop. It will also have had no expense spared maintenance.

Well that's what I'm thinking - it's lost most of its value already, most likely have been well maintained - it wasn't stolen wink ect...
what could go wrong?

Given they appear to be around the 12-14k normally on half that mileage, and given that , generally speaking, age kills cars not mileage, what's the risk?

Would 7k (difference) get you a new engine if that went kaput???

Yes. I used to work next door to a Police Garage. The cars are checked daily, and if they need work doing, the work is done, and probably to a very high standard as well. They are usually poverty spec, but i think a lot of the BMW 5's and Audi A6's are standard spec anyway. They are very rarely thrashed about, and certainly driven by competent drivers......alledgedly...;)
These motors are more than capable of 300,000 miles if looked after and serviced correctly.
I certainly wouldn't entertain a standard "panda" car though.................

Yes - but I was just clutching at worst case scenario.

Plus, how long would you plan to keep it?

If it lasted 6 months you wouldn't be doing too well, but once it's lasted 24 months you can't lose!

I think I want one of those!!!!!!

A friend who works for the Police (non traffic) says the cars are totally knackered after a year or two. The non traffic stuff is badly maintained and badly mistreated.

I'd like to think the traffic guys look after their kit better than the non traffic folk.

Not for me I'm afraid. It needs a sunwizer and I'm in no mood to try and source one of those.
