A £3000 Dog Car
Discussion
Hi all,
Thought I would post this us as someone has come to me asking for advice and I wanted to see if I had missed anything.
Basically the criteria is a £3-4000 (only 4 for the perfect car) estate car. Looking at least 55mpg (so definately diesel) on extra urban trips, no interest in 'fun' or speed, purely reliable, economical method of moving a four legged friend... I knew there was a reason I prefered cats.
Many Thanks

2nd gen Prius would be perfect - easy 56-57mpg on urban trips (and cheaper fuel than diesel), good boot with low level window that the dog can see out of when lying down. Our Lab loves ours.
Sorry, misread that as urban rather than extra-urban. Will still manage 55mpg though - excellent reliability too.

I'd second the above. Octavia diesel or perhaps a Toyota Avensis, Nissan Primera or even one of the big Citroens. Depreciation is kind to people just after reliability, cause sometimes the best built cars have no decent image and their values drop like a stone (I'm thinking mainly of the Toyota and Nissan).
E39 BMW 530i Sport Touring on lpg.
You buy this

and the lpg conversion runs you about £1200. I average 30 mpg by the computer in the car and at 74 pence a litre, I'm surely getting more than 50 mpg on an economic basis.

I've got a Fiat Doblo for my dog. Does nearly 55mpg, has been very reliable and has that vital dog car extra - opening rear side windows for the boot! Thought I would post this us as someone has come to me asking for advice and I wanted to see if I had missed anything.

How big is the dog; our King Charles Spaniel travels quite happily in the back of our Mazda 6 estate in a medium size dog cage and there is still plenty of room for luggage, etc. In fact you could probably get anything in there up to the Hound of the Baskervilles without the animal being squashed up!
