What with being elbow deep in dissertation and dealing with a sudden bout of manflu, i've felt better.

Had no excuse to drive today, So earlier went outside and started the car just to listen to the engine.

Daft - I know
Not the best for the engine - I know

BUT. It made me feel a lot better, for some reason.

Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

All the time, just sat in it and listened to the stereo on occasion, even talking about it on the Internet cheers me up!

I've had my car for months now, just a 182 with an aftermarket exhaust, but every single time I start it, no matter how bad my day, a smile appears on my face as it bursts into life and burbles away.

It's ok for you guys, you have something worth listening to. Not the same in a 2.2 diesel.

I often wonder if the Scooby costs too much to run; if the tax is too high, and I should swap it for a diseasel.

But then I come out of work after a stty horrible day, turn the key and instantly the boxer burble puts a big kid-like grin on my face, I just can't help it.

I'm sure it lifts the mood of fellow shed-runners, just because it's actually started...

My E36 328i sounded ok on startup. I used to enjoy looking at the softly-lit shape of my E39 540i with Alpinas, angel eyes when I was banned from driving for a short while, eventually got around to selling her, she's still exists in my profile though

Currently enjoy the startup on my RS6+. That's going to make way for a tiv. Now that will be fun on startup! smile

You can't beat a v8 startup really! smile

2.0l diesel here so no I don't start it up just to cheer myself up. My car ownership is so dull at the moment I could cry.
I do love hoping into the focus ST's at work and blipping the throttle though, 5 cylinder burble is lovely!

I often just look at my car to brighten my mood.
Its only an Mx5, but its my Mx5 biggrin

I've wanted one for as long as I can remember and now I've got one.
I even look forward to waking up and driving it to work in the morning!
So sad laugh

In my TVR tech days, the sound of moving the cars out of the workshop in the morning was a great start to the day

Really glad im back in a v8, the v12 was a nice sound...but this one (bmw 540) has an even stronger effect biggrin

Bit too quiet or you got an aftermarket exhaust of some description on the 540i

Once my car gets past the cold idle phase, i will gladly sit there and enjoy the idle sound. It could probably send me to sleep.

I suppose this is similar to just driving for no reason. Just something we do as petrolheads.

No aftermarket exhaust....yet. Its an e34 though, might be a little more 'cultured' sound due to the age - can definately hear the v8 loveliness, although not with the stereo on, so yep...could do with being a little more vocal.

The Lexus and RB5 are lovely to listen to what with there aftermarket exhausts. The Honda is almost silent on idle but sounds epic when vtec'ing wink.

One thing I really love doing, is just looking at it, checking it over etc. Yesterday afternoon for example, the sun was starting to set, and the remaining sunlight was casting light perfectly over the Honda, showing off it's pearescent paint very well. I simply grabbed a cold beer, and enjoyed the next half hour checking the fluids, tyres etc, giving it a wipedown. I then sat down and simply admired it for a few moments.

I love my Honda. smile
