Apologies if this topic has already been done to death...but...

For the first time in a very long time I have been in the fortunate position to tax my car for the entire year. The total cost of this is £250.

However, 6 months tax is £137.50 so doing a year like this costs an attentional £25 per year, or an additional 10%.

This is penalising people who are unable to stump up the full amount in one hit. How is this fair?!

(Terrible rant etc)

6 months tax is also used by owners of Garage Queen cars that go in to winter hibernation.

Or by people who are not at all confident that their shed will last the full year....

Bit of a non-grump if you ask me. You can say the same thing about buying anything in singles or low quantities. 1 tin of beans for 60p is a rip off when a pack of 4 is £2, 4 bog rolls cost more per roll than when you buy 12 etc....

VED for a lesser period has always been a higher rate than the full year (historically you could buy 4 months tax).

Many, many things in life are a cheaper rate the longer you sign up for and the more money you are prepared to pay in advance.

It was probably justifiable in the past due to the additional labour but in an age of a website doing most of the work, it does seem excessive and DVLA also screw you if you use a credit card for an additional £2.50 that has never been justifiable.

That is what the refund system is for.

a few years ago there was as spate of theifing waynekers breaking into cars just to pinch the full 1 year tax disc to alter and sell/dispay in their untaxed car.

i guess these days thats less effective as its all computerised etc.

i still have a mental block about buying a full years tax, and its prob a hangover from running bangers. lol.
