Just fuelled up for second time today, always use Shell and every time I squeeze the nozel and approach the desired amount I can easily increase it by a Penny...............

Until I get to .99 when it jumps immediately to .01

I'm no conspiracy theorist but its every time without fail, that's a lot of Pennies!

Why can they not just install pumps where you tell it how much you want to spend and the computer shuts it off at that price.
Really bugs me, is there a trick to it?

I feel your pain, every penny up till 99 takes a hefty pull on the trigger but then it becomes super sensitive.

Tesco do have a system on their pumps for setting the amount though, but it takes 10 minutes to do the last Pound

If you'd worked harder at school you could afford to fill the tank. Problem solved. Yafannie!

It's not that, I often like to pay in cash so as not to leave a computer trail, doesn't take a genius to know why wink
Don't like a pocket full of 9.99 change!
If I'm not going a long PH run I don't fill the tank due to performance/ weight (even with over 500 bhp) you still notice!

My local Sainsbury's lets us off the penny. Only Tesco is party to the conspiracy!

Use the 'Pay at Pump' option. I believe it shuts off at exactly £99.00

Does it take a tin foil hat and paranoia borne from years of drug abuse to know why?

Sounds good, but I need more than £99, £105 to fill my tank. And as someone said before, the last pound trickles in.

I'm trying to work out why I can always stop the pump dead on £10 but if I try to stop on £20 I always end up paying £20.01... and if you pay by card (as I do) they don't let you off the odd penny

I'm sure its to do with rounding up the odds caused by the prices ending in .9p

Please explain...

The price is calculated on how much fuel you put in the car. Is that hard to understand as to why you might not be able to get it "bang on" a £10 or whatever.

I often here people moaning about this in the petrol station. banghead

Yep.
Same thing happened to me. I only had a note on me.
I was trying to get the pump to stop at the round number but just at the last moment it jumped over.
I went into the kiosk and explained.
He said that it was only 20:02 so the little extra didn't matter.
I thanked him very much, gave him my tenner and left a happy man.
