Changing the pads and discs on a 2008 Laguna.

Was advised to a caliper windback tool. Got this

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/...

It contains this

However, I cannot figure out what I am supposed to be doing. Caliper looks like this

I can understand and locate the piston, the fixed part, the moving part etc but I've got brain freeze (I think it was the Plusgas!)

Somebody tell me what to do please?

That is a rear caliper?

first assemble the tool correctly the plate with the hole in goes on the tool to allow it to bear on the side of the caliper opposite the piston -or you cant get any pressure . then locate in piston and wind away .

I thought it looked weird but having not been near a laguna assumed it was the rear
take it back if its the front you don't need it

You need to slide that metal shim over the handle then down the rod.

Are you sure the handbrake does not operate a drum within the disc ?

Can't see any handbrake mechanism on that caliper...should push back in . I would use same tool , as it makes life so much easier on tight pistons.

Have you taken the caliper off the car, by that I mean undone the brake pipe? if so youe will need to bleed the system after you are done.

Next, you seem to have taken the the whole thing off the car, you do not do it this way, look at the reverse of the caliper and you will see to fubber stumps, pop the caps off and you should find two pins that accept a 7mm allen key, back thise off and the caliper will seperate from the pad mount, clean the pad mount and fit it back to the car.

Then use your tool to press the piston back into the caliper, loosen the master cylinder cap before you do, there are pics in the post above as how to assemble the tool.

Fit the pads, the outer to the carrier and the inner I think presses into the piston, fit the caliper back over the carrier/pads and tighten the pins *caution* they are easy to cross thread, take your time.

When happy, pump up the brakes the repeat for the other side, when done re-tighten the cap on the master after you check the levels.

That`s not a wind back caliper and those wind back tools are next to useless on anything remotely modern as they o/s and n/s calipers need winding back in in opposite directions anyway.

How much of a div do I feel? Thank you!!

I couldn't work out that bit.

Yes, Its the front, and now I realise it just needs pushing. Dark now though, so bike tomorrow...

At least I've got 15 piece wind back kit; you can never have enough tools biglaugh

Thanks for that - new discs have been fitted too hence the removal.

Most kits have left and right handed spindle for the tool.

Which cars are like this? I've worked on cars that either need to be turned anti-clockwise or clockwise (which is why a decent windback kit will have both threads) but never both on the same car.

Which is fine for the front calipers, but will wreck the typical rear caliper with threaded handbrake mechanism.
