RE: Caterham 40 Years limited edition
Thursday 9th May 2013

Planning on ordering a Caterham anytime soon? Well get in quick, because as of today, the next 40 orders to be taken will get an added bonus, at no extra charge! The '40 Years of Caterham' pack will be available on all roadgoing models of Caterham, from the Roadsport 125 right up to the Superlight R500 (though the track-only R600 won’t be included) and will include Ruby Red paintwork complete with special decals, a smattering of leather across the seats and dash, a unique numbered plaque, and new 15-inch alloy wheels. Yes, it’s purely cosmetic, with no real benefit in terms of performance or handling – but then, who’s complaining when it’s gratis?
Caterham 40 Years limited edition
Next 40 Caterham orders to get special treatment, regardless of model

As you might have guessed by its name, this new package celebrates the 40th anniversary of founder Graham Nearn’s acquisition of the rights to build the Seven from Colin Chapman. Since then, the company’s stuck with the same basic design, refining and honing it over the years without deviating from the ‘added lightness’ philosophy. The result has been a car that’s as long-lived as the company itself, and innovations along the way such as the Caterham Academy have ensured a continued audience, helping to introduce the marque to a new generation. And despite recently being unceremoniously booted out of its home town, the company’s future looks bright, too, ties with Alpine and the two companies’ jointly-developed sports car both boding well. So happy birthday, Caterham – and here’s to the next 40 years and beyond!
Discussion
Some people on here will argue the toss about the fact a Seven is a kit car...but I know exactly what you mean. Those wheels do make it look rather more low rent than a Caterham should look. Looks like a special wheel/tyre deal at Halfords!
Let's hope they are reserved just for this anni model.
Being an SV and having the new forward mounted headlights don't help either.

Glad to see that Graham M is delivering on his implied promise...

On a visit to PH Towers earlier today Macdonald admitted that Caterham had 'stalled' over the last couple of years, with a lack of new products beyond the 'parts bin' (his words...)

Sorry to be down on this, but what if you don't like the paint, wheels or the idea of a leather dashboard (I don't even like the leather seats).
Wait until they have sold 40 Caterhams from today I suppose which based on 500 cars sold a year ( http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Searc... ) should be in just over a months time! What are those wheels? TSWs? Not nice. Look like something off a Corsa on Morrison's carpark on a Friday night (Caterhams can't do doughnuts on Morrison's carpark as they won't let us on!)
Never been a big fan of red on a Seven. When they come up with the lovelyness like the SP300 I thought they could have done a little better than that to be honest. Especially without the Seven there would be no Caterham.

Erm...
What exactlky is this then, if it isnt a 40th Anniversary Caterham?
Special edition released 1997?

40 years since the original 7 maybe?
I bet its the same blooming paint! (nicer wheels too!).
I bet you don't get a radio cassette this time though What exactlky is this then, if it isnt a 40th Anniversary Caterham?

Agree with others - the "extras" are not exactly desirable and the wheels are terrible - just don't suit a 7.
Sounds like a good idea - especially as you can spec your ideal Se7en. I'll have a Roadsport 175 with leather seats, heated screen, wide track and an lsd. Oh and a lowered floor and battery isolation switch. No to a black pack because, while it looks cool, the best mirrors on a Se7en are the backs of the chrome headlights. Nuts, I'm short £25K!
At a guess the 8 spoke KN wheels we all like are in short supply now and this may be a marketing ploy. The purchase of KN wheels last year by Revolution seems to have been to obtain the Minilite design and I've seen no evidence that the Caterham wheel is still in production - someone please tell me I'm wrong

Oh dear, Someone put this boy out of his misery and educate him please....;)
Yes please do! You can buy it in a kit? You can build it from a kit? At what point isn't it a kitcar?Edited by Ollieb7 on Thursday 9th May 18:23
A) It's a kit, you can buy it and build it yourself.
B) It's not a kit, you buy the car and assemble it at home, hence it's a 'home build'. That does not make it a kit car...
A) Hang on, doesn't that exactly describe what you do with a kit car.
B) By your definition, Fords are made out of parts, are they also not kit cars then?
A) No because they're not made out of parts available as a kit that you can assemble yourself.
B) You're missing the point. A Caterham is also made out of parts and assembled by Caterham, like Ford. So it's a production car. But you also have the option of building it yourself as a home build.
A) Doesn't that last bit make it a kit car then...?
B) No, as I say, it's a production car that you can also build yourself.
A) OK, so by your reckoning, a Westfield is also not a kit car.
B) No that's a kit car that you can have Westfield assemble for you.
etc, etc.
Really, just don't go there.

te. Why bother when the anthracites in 13" and 15" look so good? And a 'smattering of leather', wtf!?
