On line vs by phone Kwik fit tyre prices

Had a quick look on line at Kwik Fit tyre prices on their web site, for my car they're £387 for two. So rather than fanny about on line I just called the local centre, cheapest they could do (even when I explained about their on line price) was £467! Eighty quid more!
So I bought and booked on line and will go to the same place to get them fitted.
Very hard to understand the logic.

If you had booked online you'd get slots days in advance of now..
If you phone up, or just drive in, you can get it done (most times) there and then.
The discount is for pre-booking in a non-busy slot when the staff arent busy and most likely sitting around drinking tea and swapping porn videos on their phones.
Certainly, that's been my experience of it.

In fairness to Kwik Fit, there will be supply chain reasons why on-line up-front sales enable them to offer the tyres at a cheaper price. For example, each outlet won't carry a full stock of all tyre sizes and brands - they'll order them in specifically, which carries risk (i.e. if you book in but never turn up) and potential additional cost (moving tyres backwards and forwards between warehouse and garage), and so on.
And on-line they will want to be seen to be competing nationally against the likes of e-tyres, Blackcircle and so on, so will be able to invest in pricing at a national level in a way that an individual outlet can't.
Whether that all justifies an £80 difference, I've no idea.

Not sure that's it. They had to get the tyres in regardless of whether booked over the phone or on line, and I've booked 11am on Saturday, which I'd think must be as busy a time as any.If you phone up, or just drive in, you can get it done (most times) there and then.

I guess there's some logic to that, they've got my money before I turn up so they know I'm having the tyres. Most shops that have an online pre-order system seem to be the same. Several times in the past, I've gone to a shop found what I want and then "reserved it online" from my phone in order to get the lower price.mercfunder said:

Indeed, Camskill have been untouchable for most things (excellent service too), but occasionally winters are cheaper on Mytyres. I've never once seen anything that's cheapest on Blackcircles, not even if you were paying silly money to have them fitted locally.I got four Goodyear tyres from Black Circles for £200

It actually amazes me how some PHrs will go to a place just because they are a big name
