One of the features I had to have, which my previous car had, was xenon lights, now I have heated seats I feel like I couldn't get a car without!

Are there any features that you now consider a must have?

In truth I can live without most modern day features and get on just fine, BUUUTTT if I must participate then sign me up for heated seats. This is of course assuming that in this year of 2013 it is assumed all standard vehicles have power windows, central locking and air con... BUT, when it comes down to it I can live without if all 3 if I had to, YES even air con.

There is something about heated seats that is very comforting to me, and adds to the grandiose appeal of spirited Autumn season driving; moon roof open, windows down 3/4's of the way, floor heater on in conjunction with the heated seats makes for a near perfect scene.

Tilt is another must have IMO. Not many vehicles without this option but anyone who has owned a fox bodied year Mustang 5.0 since the year they started adding air bags in the steering wheel (mid-1990 onward) will tell you not having the option of tilt made for a bit of an awkward feel that despite me owning 3 of these beauties I never really became 100% used the driving position. The wheel is set sort of on an upwards angle and blocks half the main dash/gauges.

And lastly, I never really used or had an appreciation for cruise control until recently my OH and I moved temporarily a fair bit away from our jobs i.e. a solid hour and a half with moderate traffic but the first 3/4's of the ride is easy highway sailing. Nevertheless, the commuter car we use (96 Civic if you can believe that. Picked it up dirt cheap off my sisters BF; gets damn near 40mpg! and isnt half bad for what it is) can begin to feel a bit heavy on the gas pedal after some time, has me wishing for cruise. Its a base model DX so no frills amenities included...

Well then, thats my bit of contribution for the morning. G'day everyone. wink Keep your eyes open for my post on coming across a McLaren MP412C at my local food shopping parking lot.

Just contributed and then saw this post. I have to agree with this as well. Absolutely despise FWD vehicles. I dont want to get into it, I just dont like the feel of them.

RWD is where its at!

My car only had 5 buttons on the dash. One doesn't do anything, and I haven't touched two of the others for years.

I didn't realise how much I love simplicity until I had it.

Power steering. Remember what a pain in the arse it is to reverse park a non-assisted car? (Caterhams and the like excluded of course).

I don't hate FWD, on the road it can be quite fun in a "safe" sort of manner, but for my fun car I couldn't have anything other than RWD.

aircon for extreme hot.
and heated mirrors and windscreen would be awesome for the extreme (or even not that extreme) cold mornings. shame my car doesnt have any of those features, ergo, it appears i can live without them, just wish i didnt have to...

I hate these.
In the two cars I have owned that had these there was no easy way to see if the lights were on or off.
So at twilight or in mist I'd have to do it manually.
Waste of time.

In the other hand.
Heated seats.

I'll agree with the seats, the getmeby / turd I have at the moment doesn't have them, I miss them, even when I wouldn't use them. More than Sat-nav, more than cruise.

If you've been out cycling for 4 hours in 0c or below and you've got that 'cold bones' feelings, no amount of warm air blowing out of the vents will cure it, it just makes your face burn, heated seats though...

Aircon is more useful reducing the humidity in the cabin nearly all year round. The fact that it keeps things comfortably cool on hot days is a bonus.
