Has anyone here used this http://www.racechip.de/en/ ?

I had on my Audi A4 3.0 TDI and I would like to know others experience, specially if anyone tried on a Insignia VXR/OPC... they claim 417bhp.

I used on my Audi for 180k kilometers from 245bhp to 305bhp (claimed by their website at the time) and some problems with gearbox and fuel pump. I can't tell if it was the chip problem or a manufacture issue but after replacement and fixing when the car was 90k kilometers no more problem and Audi couldn't tell I used the chip because warranty paid for all the services. I am not trying to brag about it, I am just stating what happened.

On the Insignia an increase from 325bhp to 417bhp I am worried if the gearbox/fuel injection/fuel pump can take it at all, does anyone knows what is the gearbox limit for torque?

Yep I've used them on the daily hack.

Supposedly added about 30bhp, not sure if that's true but it has made a difference. No other components have been affected. Car is a 2008 Toyota.

Doing a few quick calculations on their 'dyno' plots. And the numbers they give seem to be bks... have a go yourself P = Tw (to convert RPM to rad/s, RPM*2PI/60).

Would be interesting to get an independently verified result.

I'm not an expert by any means, but surely a renal tailored to your specific car would probably provide similar increases, and likely be healthier for the car?

Do VXRs suffer from premature kidney failure?

I think it has the F40 box, which is rated to 400nm, or 295lbft - however there's plenty of 159 2.4 owners running well over 400lbft through the same box with no problems

No chance.

Just join a owners club sure they will recommend a good place to get a custom remap which I would recommend over some box purchased over the web...

Why don't you save yourself €500 and get one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Performance-Engine-Tunin...

Looks very much like a variable resister changing the temp signal to me...just packaged in a posh box.

Surprised people still fall for this sort of thing.
Honestly I didn't understand your point, so what you are saying is that this company is lying? They sell something that doesn't do what they claim? Like I said before I used this on my Audi and the reason I am looking for a box not a remap is not to void the warranty.
You mentioned that they work around the temperature, what does that means for the engine and how does that increase power output?

They claim 417bhp from plugging in their box of tricks, thats a 92bhp increase. Look around at what respected tuners get from that engine, less than a quarter of that.

Either they are geniuses or they are making claims they can't back up.

Temperature thing - Something like 25 years ago there was a trick whereby you put a resistor in line to the temperature sensor, the idea was that the ecu would think the engine was running cooler and thus put more fuel in the car. It never worked back then, let alone on modern, complex ECUs.

These things are snake oil.

When tuning you can pick any two of the following:

Cheap
Powerful
Reliable

All three involves either theft or lies.

You can return it to original, but the computer will tell the person servicing it that the car has had the ECU flashed.

One more thing to add, they do not improve the fuel economy. It is only tricking the MPG reading into thinking it is fueling less, when it is in actual fact dumping more fuel in. It is obvious, but I just thought I'd point it out for people that believe them, and when they suddenly get better mpg readings.

I am not sure if it is related but I had a Volvo V70 and when the engine was cold the car would accelerate noticeably faster than with the engine warm. I put this down to the ECU pumping in more fuel when the engine is cold, which is similar to what the £1 resistor is purported to do. But you spend a lot more fuel than necessary. A technical explanation I heard once was that when the input manifold is cold the fuel condenses on its way in, and therefore you need more fuel in the mixture.

That's exactly what they do.

If you notice they uses phrases like "up to 25%" more power. This is very much like broadband download speed claims. They never give a hard and fast power increase, it is always qualified with "up to" or something similar.

Courtney Sport only get about 345bhp mapping this and they are a proper vauxhall tuner so I doubt some bloke on ebay is going to extract another 60bhp on top of that with a magic box...

They don't have much play in them mapping wise as they are already pretty tunned as standard as they are basically a vectra vxr engine with a better map on. The major difference is mid-range power and torque after the remap from having a quick search not the headline figure so the car will be a lot more driveable.
