Here goes - I know you guys love those what car threads... and as I'm running out of ideas I though you can help.
She's not easy to please up till yesterday she was driving 56 plate civic exec 1.8 semi-auto - we sold it only because we didn't enjoy the semi auto box.

So the criteria for the new car:

- Proper Auto Box could be VAG Tiptronic/Multitronic or other (She loved her a3 dsg btw)
- Engine up to 2l but preferably 1.4l or diesel
- Not Older than year 2000
- Mileage not more than 80k
- Small in size - smart in apearance
- Budget only 2.5k this time
- Not a skoda (I don't have anything against them but she wouldn't cope with one-don't ask)

She likes vw beetle and citroen c3 pluriel - but we have disregarded citroen due to it's crap semi auto box and all other pug's sharing same box

...any suggestions welcome if possible cars within 50 miles from derby....

Thanks

Searching within 60 miles of DE1 as per your criteria....

Focus Petrol Auto:
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...

Bora Diesel - slightly higher miles, and slightly over budget, but only by £200
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...

Polo Petrol - again slightly over budget

Various others including small Honda 4x4s (CRV and FRV), MINIs (beware the CVT box in there), even a high mileage C-Class Coupe.

Get something similar and Japanese but without the semi-auto box.

Just to clarify she needs automatic gearbox due to her lazy nature lol (how I see it as I can't imagine how one can't drive manual being fully body/mind able person)

Citroen C5 2.0 diesel auto. My old man's got a 2002 model, waft tastic & under a grand to buy. Still manages 45+mpg despite only being a 4 speed slushbox. You might struggle to find a low miler though.

ETA - and it's a bit big. Is that a bad thing?

Bora is nice and even pink smile She would like that don't mid the price as this can be adjusted up and down slightly or she can do some haggling.

C5 - thanks but it's rather big and in her case yes - it is a bad thing + we are trying to make it economical.

We both like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-VOLKSWAGEN-BEETLE-Y...

but I imagine MPG isn't great + 225 road tax + it's bit far and there is no record of cam belt being done (already asked)

I would love to get her in to VDUBS so I could jump back on the scene and we could be modding happily ever after wink

Accident damage springs to mind when looking at the grill and seals - or just tasteful modded?

Well I had 3 tiptronics (from 1.4 16v through 1.8 T up to 2.5 V6 tdi) in my short life and they where still going long after engine gave up...so I guess it depends...
or are you only referring to audi's multitronic? (isn't that the same box?)

This turned out to be right nail - took me whole 5 minutes to decide against it - noisy starter, tail lights falling out, paint pealing off all four alloys, drivers door frame bent + marks on the pillar, cracked bumper grills, various scratches - total waste of time and space and I told the garage owner exactly that...

Multitronic is totally different - it's a CVT for a start, whereas your Tiptronic was a torque converter auto.

there is that but then again that's only 30k miles ago so it should last another 40k?
