Best 4 Seat Convertibles with Hard Roof Under £13,000

I'm looking for some advice on purchasing a used 4 seat convertible with a hard roof.

So far I've only found one car with 4 seats and a hard roof convertible: BMW 3 Series Convertible:

You can get a 2007 or even 2008 one of these for around £12,000.

I quite like this car, but I was wondering if anyone new of any others like this? As far as I know it's a bit of a rarity to have a four seater hard roof convertible.

There are also the Volvo c70, Astra twin top, Lexus sc430 and Renault Megane

Why does it have to have a hard roof? I've had a few convertibles and modern soft tops are very good - ok perhaps a little less secure but how much of a real issue is on a day to day basis?

You get a lot more boot space with a soft roof which I've found more useful when 4 up

Some more 4 seat hard top cabrios for your consideration;

Ford Focus, VW Eos, Peugeot 206, 207, 307 and 308.

The Ford is known to leak terribly (although many of these hard top cabrios are reported to be troublesome). I'd be most tempted by the Volvo C70 personally. Looks good top up or down.

I've never really noticed the Lexus sc430, that looks nice. Thanks mattman I appreciate it. I'll look into that one.

I considered the mercedes CLK soft top as well. But it is my only car and we have only got space for one. I don't use it all that often as I commute to work on the tube.

I find a convertible is the best choice because we tend to use the car on the weekend and it's nice to get some sun and also I really love driving convertibles. Currently I have an SLK but increasingly we're finding we need the extra seats.

I'll check out the Lexus sc430, it certainly looks nice.

I'm not keen on the Megane or any of the Peugeots or Fords. I would definitely consider something unusual, but I hate the styling on these cars. And I'd imagine quality would not as good as the BMW or Mercedes. The Volvo is better but still not so keen.

I think so far my top 3 options are:

BMW 3 Series
Mercedes CLK
Lexus SC430

First two are in my price range. I'll look into the Lexus as well.

depends on how many miles you do or what you want from the car, but i've just been through a 4x seat cabriolet purchase and ended up with this - mainly because I had to have a V8 auto...



You should be able to pickup a good 630 within budget - just look out for the tax jump between 05 and 06

Other cars I looked at are the S4 cabriolet - of course they come in all engine sizes so should be able to find something that fits the bill.

Was really tempted by one of these but saw too many IMS issues in my research which scared me off - then my neighbours 06 C2 has just undergone a £16k engine rebuild which was the final nail in the coffin for the boss - One day though, one day....

Where did he get the £16k rebuild done? Needless to say, wherever it was he got shafted - big time.

Porsche ! It was covered under warranty but that was the total bill they told him - probably just generating cash by the warranty division

I'd never have guessed Full rebuild by Hartech including all the preventative measures is around £5k - you'd be left with a bombproof engine too.

Depends who or what you want to put in the rear seats.

Forget the hard roof. Get a clean E46 M3 with an Eisenmann race exhaust and then if the roof is hard or not it won't matter as it will be down! Also you will have spare money left over.

An E93 330i convertible is a respectable choice too they look nice.

I actually like the new megane cabrio..... mush nicer than the old one!





HOWEVER..... anything newish and you are gonna be in big depreciation territory

my money would be on the 6 series too - i REALLY like these cars but you probably won't be able to stretch to the diesel version
