Bought 635 CSI In Scotland Roadtrip Today?
Discussion
I have placed a bid on non runner 635 CSI and was very surprised to win it...so is miss sickrabit - actually she is raging...anyway
I'm trying to find a self drive car transporter hire company local to derby - all of them seem to have trucks with bed size of 4,3 - 4,5m...now old girl (bmw) is 4,7m...question is would I get away with the bum sticking out a bit? Wheel base of the BM is 2,6m this means that the wheels will definitely fit on the bed right?
Weight wise payload limited to 1,5t car weights 1520kg so 20kg over - I guess this should be fine?
Idea so far hire the transporter get there (380miles) try to fit the car on it - if it doesn't take the bumpers off to gain extra couple of mm and leave them there (to save on weight) and get them couriered over?
Anyone fancy a trip...(you must be tolerant - I'm foreign and have a vehicle capable of carrying my ebay find and do it all for under £250)
Any help much apriciated

Last one I did
Norfolk to Scotland and back in a weekend....
So on a Saturday a couple of months back I enlisted the help of a mate with a van that had a towbar, hooked up the empty trailer and filled up the van

And set off on the drive up to Scotland.
Pace was sedate and we kept of the motorways so scenery was very nice at times – with roads like this ahead who needs motorways (and no we didn’t have a massive queue of cars behind us either)

Getting close to Scotland we caught up a group of small eastern block two strokes from Germany being supported by a Trabant - I think they were going on to Norway!
I’m quite partial to the smell of two strokes so I snapped a few pictures but that’s a heck of a road trip

Forth bridge - we were close to our destination

Spent the evening loading up trailer and van with a few beers and a fair bit of conversation as well as a Chinese takeaway Scottish style (Special Fried rice is a meal on its own) and then early on Sunday Morning started the drive back. (Roddy had kindly provided great accommodation with his family caravan)
This made me laugh

Of course we didn’t use it but it’s also my home town which is a bit “toilet” as a place to live goes
Trailer loaded up with a car loaded up with more stuff (we may have been a smidge over weight on the trailer and we still had to leave stuff behind)

Van had two engines in it and a lot of other spares
Took the old bridge back across the forth

Then a chance for a breakfast and fuel

Once rolling the van could maintain a reasonably happy 50 mph but we certainly knew we were towing

Getting overtaken by a house was embarrassing!!!

Some moody old sky around although we’d been lucky with the weather

The posts are so people know where the road is when it snows – Hmm we have an inch where I live and the whole world grinds to a halt!!!

Arrived home late Sunday afternoon and promptly unloaded trailer and van – was a long weekend but worth it

Where in Scotland are you going? Can't help with transport, just interested thats all.
Now that i work in North Scotland and travel back to Lincolnshire every two weeks, it always makes me chuckle now when people consider Edinburgh or Glasgow, an epic journey into Scotland when really there are just over the border. Add another 3-4hours onto the journey upto Inverness, Aberdeen, wick etc. that starts to become epic.

Off topic but I love that Monza. Hope you can get a set of original wheels for it.
What state is the restoration in now? I have wanted one of these since I was ten.
Err the blue one - doesn't look so good now - keep what I needed and what was good gave away engine and anything else other enthusiasts needed and rest went over the bridgeWhat state is the restoration in now? I have wanted one of these since I was ten.

It had to die to save another....

I remember that from when I was working in Aberdeen. A guy I worked with was from Elgin and he considered anyone from Edinburgh to be a "bloody Southerner"!Now that i work in North Scotland and travel back to Lincolnshire every two weeks, it always makes me chuckle now when people consider Edinburgh or Glasgow, an epic journey into Scotland when really there are just over the border. Ok - it feels like this thread is hijacked already but now I have some time I will post some facts about the whole experience:
Friday bored at work I have placed a bid of £800 on the 1984 635 CSI - I though that I always wanted one and this one looked mighty fine (after selling my e9 barn find - only natural to go for younger generation model next)
I didn't even hope it could be won for that much + it seemed a bit far - well I was wrong - I received an email about 8pm from ebay - it was the invoice.
I quickly rang the seller to see if I could pick it up next day, then started looking for transport options - have been initially quoted £600 for someone to fetch it for me - this was a no go straight away - next step hire a self drive - couldn't find anybody hiring out a truck with bed longer than 4.3m - I have lost whole hope by 10pm - off to the pub...chatted with a mate to see if he was up for a bit of a trek just in case...got back home about midnight...and the search started again.
About 8am Saturday - I have managed to book a transporter with 4.5m bed it was 25 miles away and just £89 for one day hire and 250 miles mileage cap (9p per mile thereafter).
Phoned my mate and of we went - we have left the hire place just before 10am after paying 2 days hire + deposit upfront as they told me I will never make it back in time for 8am Sunday...
The ruck itself was horrible - 390k miles on the clock slick tyres hole in the foot well, anti roll bar links hanging off - the lot...but hey still not bad for last minute...unlikely legal unfortunately
We got there about 6-7pm (Brechin - 370-390 miles away from the hire place)after painstaking drive including but not limited to such fun as almost coming of the roundabout drift style...(thanks to slick ditch finders and lack of feel for the beast).
Anyway...seller was fantastic car as described - we had some fun loading it - at first glance it didn't look that the old girl will fit on the truck but it did with a bit overhang...(I was fearing whole time going up there even considering some fantastic contraptions to extend the truck - miss sickrabbit would kill me if I told her I done 850 miles just for sake of it - she will kill me anyway for buying another pile of rust without her blessing (this will cost me a wardrobe - seriously)
We left about 8.30-9 PM - our little truck wasn't to happy with the load applied - we where pushing crazy 60mph downhill - and it felt like the BM is trying to flip us...
We have landed back in derby approx 5am - unloaded the car straight away...I was exhausted so went straight to bed just to wake up again at 7:30 to drop the truck off at the hire place - so another 50 miles done...
In total 850 miles in the ruck + 50 getting it and coming back home
Total hire cost £144 + fuel approx £200-220 maybe more including mc d's + lost receipts (I'm sure miss sickrabbit will have a go at toting it up using bank statement - just because she can)
Look on the bloke's face when I drooped it off 24h earlier than he expected - priceless...
I have already spent £200 on parts and hope to get her going by Sunday - maybe earlier depending on parts and time available (as some of you might know I'm leaving my job and starting new one on Monday there for I need to be fresh for Monday - but might be leaving my job prematurely tomorrow rather than Friday as it looks as they are unwilling to pay for my unused holiday this would give me 3 days for tinkering)
I don't think I will be keeping the car - it meant to be a money making exercise but we never know...
Finally sorry for terrible language - I'm foreign after all there for I'm allowed

As it stands now the car wasn't fired up since 2000 - all the wiring is chewed up by mice
