Just looking for opinions. I test drove an Alfa 3.0 Spider today shod with Infinity tyres. To be honest didn't really get the chance to test them at the extremes but does anyone have an opinion about these tyres? (rears were an advisory at the last MOT).

I haven't come across the brand before but I wasn't that impressed. Are they OK or considered the archetypal ditchfinder?

Just looking for the appropriate negotiating arguments!

Never come across that make before. Default PH answer is unless you're using premium tyres you will 100% come off the road at the first roundabout in a ball of flame smile

Paid 17 quid for one on my last MOT, just before I sold the car. Says it all really.

I covered about 20k on infinity tyres that were on my forester when I bought it (and still when I sold it) I never felt that they were compromising the car at any point - they did have quite a sipey pattern and would hum on some surfaces though.

If they've stuck cheap st tyres on it you can expect that they've cut other corners elsewhere when owning it.

You might think that but my forester had been pampered to within an inch if its life before I bought it (with a think wad of invoices to prove it) but had needed 4 tyres not long before it was traded in!

Disagree,
I don't fit Continental tyres to all my cars, but they are always serviced properly.
I quite like tyres like BF Goodrich, Maxxi and Marshall, they have done the same job as Bridgestone's/ Michelins etc they replaced, and can be quite a bit cheaper than premium brands.
That said on my M3 I only ever put Continental M3 tyres on it.
I bought some called Autogrip once in a moment of madness, ended up going back next day and paying again to change them to the OEM Michelin.
I think if you have experience and know a tyre, fine but to presume they are all crap because they are cheap can be a little narrow minded.

I'm sure you could come into the UK market with a German sounding brand name and sell Chinese crap tyres providing you were MORE expensive then anyone else.

And the knowledgeable ones would flock to them in droves while claiming they are brilliant

Complete crap - dangerously crap even. Please say they aren't INF-05s, if so - swap them ASAP.

Come on guys - we all know the PH orthodoxy; anything other than the most expensive, branded tyre you can buy will kill you to death the moment you pull out of the tyre centre

Got some Infinities on the back of the wife's car they came with it when we got it. Car hasn't fallen off the road yet.

I would never fit cheap tyres by choice though so some Continental Premium Contacts will be getting fitted to it soon.

I had some infinity snow tyres for a trip to the alps and in the snow they were excellent.

And in the dry they were fine

BUT, in the wet, holy crap, they were awful, I couldn't undestant how they had less grip than they did in the snow and ice! But they did.

Seriously they were awful in th wet particularly on the brakes.

So I'm guessing you didn't look at the reprint of the Autobild test results on that link, then - several more "mid-range" brands in the overall top 10, Infinity in 48th. Wet braking results: 43.7 metres for a Continental, 44.6 for a Uniroyal, 49.5 for a Nankang ... 62 metres for the Infinity!

I'll grant you that not everything cheap is necessarily dreadful - using the same test results GT Radial, Maxxis and Nankang came out looking impressive, while Nexen did okay - but treating it like people are only going for known brands because they're like fashion labels is wide of the mark. It's because they're consistently good - if you go to a tyre place and get a 'premium' tyre, their performance is all pretty closely grouped. If you go and get a budget tyre, there could be a 50% difference in wet stopping distances!

That's the rating for an Infinity tyre. That's very, very bad. Here's the data for an Arrowspeed tyre, which are usually thought to be terrible:

EVO did a tyre test a while ago...Conti SP3 braking from 60mph did well...by the time the Conti had stopped a cheapo tyre was still doing 20mph...might have got the exact numbers wrong but the figures were an eye opener.

I had an Infinity on the rear left of my Mondeo for a while. A couple of times I was surprised to be correcting armfuls of oversteer on wet/greasy right handers and roundabouts. The tyre also made a racket, wore unevenly and then cracked badly long before the tread was worn out.

There are Ditch Finders, these seem, from the reviews to actively look for them, so the new term for really crap tyres is Ditch Seekers.
