Thing is when the current MINI came out i thought it was a step back from the original new MINI, but now i think the original looks dated and much prefer the current one.

This does look awkward to me (from those crappy pics) but it may quickly date the current model.

Why?

Is it really necessary for manufacturers to bring a brand new version out every five years or so?
The original BMW MINI still looks fine and a lot better than this abomination. Why not just update the mechanicals and interiors if needed. Its seems that car manufacturers are developing the next model as before the previous one has been launched.

The top half and bottom half of that bumper look as if they were designed by different blind people. Quite glad - means I'll stay happy with my current one for a few years to come.

I'm on my 3rd MINI so I obviously like them and I have tried to stick up for the brand before on here, but that front end is so ugly it's beyond words. Is it about to throw up? I suspect the colour is not helping for the orange one.

The first MINI launched in 2001 still looks modern to me now. I think it has aged so well. I look at my current Clubman Cooper S and can't believe it's nearly 6 years old. I suspect I'll be keeping it a while longer now...

Hmm, in styling terms it seems to be a case of "change purely for the sake of change". I never much liked the styling of the other MINIs, but that front bumper is awful.
