S-Max or C4 Grand Picasso

Get a fully loaded Galaxy instead. Lovely place to be in top spec plus a nice drive too
They are out of budget - but I do like the look of them
- new model that is.EDIT: I thought they was, but one 4-5 years old can be bought within budget. I'll look around!

Do you need the full 7 seats? If not take a look at the Mazda 5. If you do need the full 7 I would also consider a Grandis. I much prefered the Grandis to the S max, and you still get a decent boot with all the seats up. I quite liked the C4 I looked at, but the very very mixed reviews put me off it. I also liked the Smax, but to get the spec I wanted required me getting the titanium, which there weren't many of for sale. On the Smax the tailgate also seemed massive and I just had visions of not being able to open it when parked up in a standards space (though this may have all been in my head). We ended up with a Mazda 5, as the misses liked the sliding doors. I was very sceptical at first, but to be honest they are a god send and mean we can park in any space with out worrying about getting the child seat out etc.
My other half has a C4 Picasso (not the grand but its basically the same).
1.6 HDi electronic manual (auto).
Its actually a nice place to be driving or driven. Its not a rocket ship but wafts along nicely. My only gripe is that although not gutless it feels frugal but only returns ~40mpg on a run and that's not thrashing it (in comparison my petrol Saab 93 Aero returns 34mpg and that's driven much harder).
Its got LOADS of pockets and nooks. Trays on the seat backs are handy for the kids and the boot fits a honking great Labrador in comfort.
I doubt the S-max is particularly better or worse to be honest. We only went for the Citroen as we preferred the styling and found a low mileage minter for good money.

I tested both and went for the S-max. Very nice to drive and masks it's size well. The Picasso had a slightly better ride but it was not as sharp in its steering. Both felt they had similar build quality, personally I liked the S-max interior more.
My only gripe with the S-max is the fuel consumption. I've got the 168bhp diesel but it averages only 38mpg mixed driving. Even on a long 70-80mph run it doesn't get much over 40.

What a shame my first post is about the s-max
Anyway, I had one of the earlier ones, a 57 titanium spec. It actually wasn't bad at all, went ok for 140 bhp diesel and wasn't a bad drive. It did 70k miles in 3 years - mechanically it was fine, but interior plastics weren't looking so good and I always had problems with the Bluetooth hooking up. Dealer in derby was appalling though, put me right off..
7 seats was overkill. Hardly ever used them and when I did, it was other parents that benefitted rather than me.
Not the last word in driving pleasure or fun, but it did what it was designed to do pretty effectively

I've just bought a Picasso grand. Would have have preferred the smax but they are a lot more expensive for something that's essentially the same. ended up With the 1.6 hdi manual. Didn't fancy my chances with a complicated auto made by citoren!
Essentially the same but of vastly inferior quality. dm46 said:
