If it goes for around the same mark as one did at Belle Vue last Friday it'll be about 9.5k

Wouldn't expect it to make more than the CAP value, so circa £5k.

In the old days it was possible to ring up BCA the day after and they'd tell you the price it went through for, so you could try that if no one is going.

Where do you get 5.6k from? It CAP's at 4400.

A 155k mile W211 from CCTrade with no history. Good luck!

thanks, got the info from car valuation guide, is there a more accurate place to get CAP values? that'd be useful smile

wasn't intending to buy this particular car wink I'm just at the beginning stages of research on one of these and looking at the auction prices achieved between pre & post 06 cars as there seems to be a great deal of hate for the early ones due to reliability, seeing if I can stretch to the latter, dont mind some high miles tbh as it seems they cope (or there's plenty on the market any way) as long as serviced properly.

have read a few reliability woes with the later model to, experience tells me that no car is bullet proof though.

To be honest I only quickly glanced and do think the other one may have been a newer example. Just remember all it takes is a couple of private buyers to be present t the auction and a bidding war to start up and it will shoot through the roof due to it having the 3 pointed star on it.

2 owner car with a fair appraisal for the age and miles and a recent MOT. Would expect it to be towards £5k

The only thing an early W211 is the way to is madness & bankruptcy. Awful, awful, awful, totally awful utter, utter pieces of enormous ste. You'd be better off with a Mk 2 Laguna. They're not even nice when they work.

Go for a later one or one of the last W210's and deal with the rust.

wow, that's a strong view, do you have allot of experience with these then?

tbh I'd happily look at the W210 but the rust put me off even more than the early W211 issues, but I guess I could look for a sorted or garaged example, was it cosmetic rust with these or more chassis related? I had a C43 of this era (98/99) with 160k miles on it and it drove like new & seemed to be hewn from stone smile was the w210 much the same quality apart from the rust?

W211 is a decent car after about 05. The 04 models are better but still suffer common 02/03/04 issues.

W210 has less common issues certainly - apart from the rust. And they all do rust to a greater or lesser extent.

W211's have caused me a lot of grief over the years personally and professionally. The first 2-3 years production were very poor cars. They're just not worth the bother. Buy a later one or if you don't want to spend that much buy something else.
