Having watch Top Gear last night and enjoying the bit on the F Type and also hearing one a few days earlier a thought struck me. Is there a better sounding car on standard exhausts? For me the V8 shades the V6 but not by much. So is there anything out there sounds better?

I assume you mean "new" and "production" car. There are plenty of classics and racing cars that sound better to my ear. smile

Mind you, I'd put quite a few modern cars above it too. For example Carrera GT, Gallardo, Zonda, LFA,...

Lexus LFA
Ferrari 599 GTO
Aston Martin V12 Vantage

I must agree though, the F-Type is probably the best sounding car on sale with an RRP under £100k.

1980's Alfa GTV V6. Sounds glorious.

Aston V12V, Pagani Zonda, Miura, the list is endless! It does sound fantastic though, and there's not much sub-£100k that will sound better as stock.

Two weeks ago that would have been my choice....but hearing that V8 last week it was awesome and not really being hammered either.

Maserati mc stradale, 'pretty much' 8C sounds.

But a Zonda sounds awesome for only a 7k redline, that's the joy of 12 cylinders!

Think I should have added a max purchase cost to this debate, some good shouts, but very high value machines.

More down to earth machines then.

Alfa 2.4 JTD lump - yes its a diesel but it certainly sounds good, even more so when compared to most 4 pots.
Alfa V6 (busso) obviously.
Alfa 146/145/33 with one of the boxer engines in is pretty good.
BMW E34 525i is definitley worth a mention.

The list I can make is pretty long.

I'd say the VW Golf R32 has to be up there. Although not in production anymore, it's modern.

Exactly what I was going to say until I read the 'new' stipulation. A fraction of the price of a lot of metal that's been posted as well.

I was behind one of those MINI John Cooper "Works" things on the M62 a bit since - not sure if it was a PHer, reg was something that looked like "LOON".

Anyway - it was crackling and popping like crazy - it sounded brilliant. No idea if that is how they come "out of the box".

The Granturismo S MC-shift I've just purchased is the best sounding car I've had the pleasure of owning by a country mile, and judging by the amount of people, young and old asking me to blip the throttle at traffic lights, petrol stations and the like in the first six weeks it seems to be universal.

Back in the real world...

Abarth 500. Lovely sounding things straight out of the box.
