I've had my M135 for 2500 miles now and have been running the journey computer since day 1. Average speed over lifetime is 38.5 mph. I'm a bit surprised how low it is. I live in the country so I dont spend ages sat in city traffic but equally I dont use motorways all that often either. Roads around me are fairly good, very few tiny country lanes with blind bends. Car is driven by me and the Mrs (a petrolhead) although we are both more sensible with our daughter in the car. Just wondering a) why I bought a fast car and b) what other manage.....

No I dont. As my fascinating statistic proves I have no time because I take so long driving anywhere.

That is actually very high.

Most cars I've seen the Av speed (over years as opposed to a trip) is below 20mph

I had a bike with an hour meter so you could figure out the average speed pretty easily. That was about 42mph if I remember right but that was a bike only ever used for fun. 38 in a daily is quite high.

I bet not many cars average more than yours over 2500 miles. Maintaining a high average speed on the roads is very difficult (or risky).

I think our family hack is about 28mph and we don't live in the big city, do quite a bit of A road and motorway miles so I think yours is a pretty good average.

35mph average at the moment. Mostly from village to town and back on short runs, then some fairly long drives when we go on holiday. Been on a holiday a couple of weeks ago so that has raised it, but generally I do drive like a fking moron BMW driver which helps keep the averages up.

Driving a 50 mile journey into London, my computer will tell me a 58mph average until I get to the lights at the bottom of the A1. Once I get to my office it has dropped to low 30s average.

Stopping at lights/roundabouts/etc. absolutely kills average speed.

This - one of my cars never really gets beyound about 36mph average (never reset since purchase), despite extensive motorway work. But idling the engine at the end of a drive to let the turbo spool down ruins the average speed. This is what makes Chris Harris' average speed in a Panamera of 49mph impressive/concerning (delete as appropriate) - see here http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...

I'd guess my average to be 24 mph, 18 mile trip to or from work taking an average of 45 minutes.
