Becker 7945 - Ipod Connector

I have had this the unit in my 996 GT3 for a number of years working fine no issues, but recently purchased the ipod connector. I am running the latest version of the software which is a prequisite so pulled the unit out this afternoon in an attempt to connect the ipod lead. So far I have encountered an number of issues:
1. There does not seem to be anyway to feed the cable into the glove box without cutting a larger hole in the top of the inside of the glove box.
2. When I pushed everything back in and refitted the control unit, the headunit does not recognise it and you get the warning message about the control unit not being connected?
In reconnecting the pins for the microphone into the connector that comes with the ipod unit, I did break one of the connections so I need to get this sorted, but I can't think it's causing the issue with the headunit not recognising the control unit.
Anyone have any ideas or can recommend a decent ICE installer in Herts or Essex?
