New type of speed camera on M1

Probably been around for years but certainly new to me.
Noticed it traveling south from Luton a mile or two before the M25 exit. It was on the northbound carriageway.
It was square tubed cowling mounted at about 30 degrees and half way up the left hand gantry post (one of the gantries which carries the 4 standard Gatsos). It looked like a scaled up version of some of those traffic monitoring systems.
Only noticed it as it flashed someone going north yet the Gatsos above did nothing (as I suspect they are duff).

I'm fairly certain it would have been either an ANPR camera or a traffic-monitoring camera, not a speed camera, and therefore didn't flash. Could it have been a reflection?
I can catagorically say that it flashed. It had the same double flash of a Gatso and the intensity of it was just not that of a reflection. My initial confusion was why the flashes had come from a gantry with Gatsos but from the far side pillar well away from the cameras.
I didn't notice any more of them on either side.

Incidentally, after Luton there are little CCTV cameras less than 100 m apart for miles. They seem a little bit of overkill. What's the logic for them over the old raised CCTV every line of site apart? More evidence?

I’ve noticed the flashes on the north bound carriageway, also at first thinking they may have been reflections. But have also seen something similar on the south bound between J13 & J12, a largish box (as photo) with a smaller camera next to it. The box with a least three lenses (windows) on it, again is mounted halfway up the gantry support facing the rear of the traffic. This morning it flashed on three separate occasions as I approached and passed it, it was dark and they were very bright. The speed was set to 60 (as it always seems to be these days) the traffic flow was on or about that speed.
This one has now appeared on the South bound carriage way. It has 4 separate lenses, one for each lane and a stand alone flash unit which was going mental about two hours ago.
The photo was taken heading back South. The yellow road sign tends to confirm that these are definitely cameras.

king bright, especially at night.Its the new speed cameras they are rolling out around the "managed motorway" network. The same has appeared on M25 near Clackets Lane services and they were going mental after initial switch on. Beware guys and pay attention, these are a bugger to spot at night until the whole world around you lights up. Thread here :
